About the Role

Robert Bird Group is seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer – Geotechnical to join our growing London team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work on complex building, infrastructure and temporary works projects across the UK and internationally, collaborating with leading structural, civil and construction engineering professionals.

As a Design Engineer, you will be involved in the design, analysis and delivery of geotechnical solutions from concept through to construction, while developing your technical expertise and progressing towards Chartership.

Duties

  • Undertake geotechnical design and analysis for:
    • Retaining walls
    • Deep foundations
    • Shallow foundations
    • Earth retention systems
    • Ground improvement solutions
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports and technical specifications.
  • Perform design checking and technical reviews.
  • Undertake ground movement assessments and monitoring reviews.
  • Assist in the design, procurement, interpretation and management of ground investigations.
  • Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with structural and civil engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Assist with project planning, programming and resource coordination.
  • Monitor project costs and support commercial management of projects.
  • Assist with fee proposals, fee variations and project invoicing.
  • Support and mentor graduate engineers and junior team members.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures.
  • Promote Robert Bird Group's services and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 3+ years' experience in geotechnical engineering design and analysis.
  • Experience working on building, infrastructure or temporary works projects.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of UK design standards and Eurocodes.
  • Working towards Chartership (ICE, Geological Society or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience with geotechnical design software and engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, commercial awareness and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop professionally and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
