Course: EAST 212 – Intro: East Asian Culture: Japan (3 credits) section 001


Course details: An introduction to Japan which presents various aspects of Japanese literature, culture, history, religions, philosophy and society.

Teaching Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, 04:05PM - 05:25 PM

Course Start/End Date: January 5, 2027 to April 14, 2027

Contract Dates: January 5, 2027 - May 5, 2027

Location: TBA


Salary (current rate for 3-credit course teaching): $11,824

Position Summary:

A Course assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:


a) preparation of the Course and Course plan; 

b) delivery of the Course; 

c) evaluation of students; 

d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades; 

e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff; 

f) upon request, review of students’ grades; 

g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements; 


Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.


Teaching Qualification Requirements:


Education: Master's degree, or equivalent, in Asian Studies.


Experience:  Applicants should have substantial experience teaching as an instructor at the university level.

Asian Language & Literature : Introduction to the basic structures of Mandarin Chinese, Pin-yin romanization and 750 characters for reading and writing. Emphasis on developing aural and oral skills through communication games and interaction activities. Animated films are used as part of teaching materials.

Teaching Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 08:35 AM - 09:25 AM

Course Start/End Date: January 5, 2027 to April 14, 2027

Contract Dates: January 5, 2027 - May 5, 2027

Location: TBA


Salary: $17,218.50 per course lecturer (for teaching the equivalent of 4.5 credits)

Course details: A communicative approach will be used to provide students with skills to communicate in various situations, express their ideas and feelings, and discuss various aspects of culture and life in China and in Canada. Teaching materials include Chinese movies on videotape and slides depicting Chinese life and culture.

Teaching Schedule: Tuesdays, Thursdays, 11:35 AM - 12:55 PM
