Job Description

About us

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

Every day, our colleagues support scientific discoveries, healthcare innovations, and life-changing therapies that positively impact millions of people worldwide. With more than 125,000 employees globally, we combine innovation, collaboration, and expertise to help our customers solve some of the world's most important challenges.

Our Brno site is home to a diverse international engineering community working on sophisticated technologies and products used by customers around the world.

About the Role

As a Senior Cost & Value Engineer – Electrical, you'll join our growing Technical Sourcing Engineering (TSE) organization in Brno as part of an international team focused on improving the value and competitiveness of our existing products.

You'll apply your electrical/electromechanical engineering expertise and Cost & Value Engineering principles across electrical components, electromechanical systems and PCBA/electronics technologies. Working closely with engineering, sourcing and suppliers, you'll evaluate technical solutions, develop should-cost insights and identify opportunities to improve product cost, manufacturability and overall value.

We're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong technical foundation and the versatility to work across different technologies and component families. You may bring deeper expertise in a particular area, but you'll be comfortable investigating unfamiliar technologies, challenging existing solutions and turning technical analysis into practical recommendations.

Why Join Our Brno Team?

You'll be joining a growing Cost & Value Engineering capability where your technical expertise can directly influence product and business decisions.

The role offers significant exposure to global engineering teams, sourcing stakeholders and suppliers, with the opportunity to work on projects where your recommendations can deliver measurable results.

It's also an opportunity to expand your engineering career beyond traditional design: developing deeper expertise in should-cost analysis, manufacturing economics, value engineering and technical supplier collaboration, while remaining firmly connected to engineering and technology.

What You'll Do & How You'll Make an Impact

  • Identify and develop cost-reduction and Value Engineering opportunities across existing electrical and electromechanical products

  • Analyse designs, components, manufacturing processes and cost drivers to understand what products and components should cost and where engineering can create additional value

  • Work across a broad technology landscape including electrical and electromechanical assemblies, PCBA/electronics and related components

  • Redesign or optimise components and assemblies, applying DFM/DFA/DFx principles to improve manufacturability, cost and product value

  • Apply a should-cost mindset, considering component selection, materials, manufacturing processes, labour, tooling and other cost drivers when evaluating technical and supplier solutions

  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with suppliers, collaborating with their engineering and manufacturing teams to identify and implement improvements

  • Visit suppliers and lead or participate in technical and Value Engineering workshops to explore alternative components, technologies and manufacturing approaches

  • Evaluate alternative components, technologies, manufacturing processes and supplier solutions

  • Lead opportunities through discovery and feasibility and support projects through implementation

  • Partner closely with R&D and Category Management, presenting technical recommendations and influencing stakeholders without direct authority

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline

  • Strong experience in electrical/electromechanical product design, development or manufacturing, with knowledge of components, assemblies and manufacturing processes

  • Experience across relevant technologies such as PCBA/electronics, electrical or electromechanical assemblies, wiring/harnesses, sensors, motors/drives, power supplies or controls

  • Experience with Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE or VAVE) and DFM/DFA/DFx methodologies

  • Good understanding of should-cost principles and manufacturing cost drivers – hands-on expertise with specific costing tools is not required

  • Experience working directly with suppliers or manufacturing partners and building strong technical relationships

  • Evidence of delivering cost, manufacturability or product-value improvements through engineering decisions

  • Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-influencing skills, with the ability to work independently in an international environment

  • Professional working proficiency in English and willingness to travel approximately 20% globally for supplier/customer visits, workshops and project activities

  • We welcome engineers from automotive, industrial automation, electronics, aerospace, energy, semiconductor equipment, machinery, medical devices and other complex engineering/manufacturing environments.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on should-cost modelling or experience with dedicated costing tools

  • Design-to-Cost or product cost optimisation experience

  • Supplier development or supplier cost-reduction experience

  • Product qualification or validation experience

  • Experience spanning multiple electrical, electronics and electromechanical technologies

  • Experience within a regulated product environment

  • Medical-device or scientific-instrumentation experience

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package and annual bonus

  • 5 weeks of vacation

  • 5 paid sick/personal days

  • Pension contribution

  • Multisport Card

  • Life and risk insurance

  • Meal allowance

  • Preferential mobile tariff

  • Anniversary Award Program

  • Patent Award Program

  • Learning and development opportunities within an international engineering organisation

  • Exposure to suppliers, technologies and technical experts across Europe and beyond

  • The opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that helps make the world healthier, cleaner and safer

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you bring strong engineering and manufacturing knowledge, understand how technical decisions influence cost, and enjoy collaborating with suppliers and global teams, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
