Cost Accountant

We are seeking a Cost Accountant with a strong business partnering mindset to support decision-making and analytics across our manufacturing operations. This role sits at the intersection of Finance and Operations and plays a critical part in helping leaders understand performance, identify trends, and drive informed operational and financial decisions.

This position offers meaningful exposure to senior leadership and has a direct impact on company decision-making. You will help shape how the organization understands cost, performance, and opportunity across manufacturing, and play an important role in leading the business forward as we continue our digital transformation journey. The successful candidate will not only provide accurate financial insight, but will also influence how data is used to modernize processes, improve visibility, and enable smarter, faster decisions across the enterprise.

Partnering closely with Manufacturing FP&A, Operations, Supply Chain, and Methods teams, you will translate cost, inventory, and performance data into clear, actionable insight. This is a highly visible role that goes beyond traditional accounting—requiring strong communication, intellectual curiosity, and the confidence to respectfully challenge assumptions in service of better outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Decision Support

  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to Operations and Manufacturing leaders

  • Translate complex financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders

  • Proactively identify trends, risks, and opportunities throughout the month

  • Ask thoughtful questions and respectfully challenge assumptions to deepen understanding and improve decision-making

  • Partner with Finance and Operations leadership to support enterprise-level decision-making and advance digital and analytical maturity across manufacturing

Manufacturing Cost & Performance Analytics

  • Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), labor, materials, overhead, and inventory movements

  • Deliver timely reporting and insights to Manufacturing FP&A and operational teams

  • Identify cost drivers and performance trends impacting margin and efficiency

Manufacturing Close & Reporting

  • Reconcile inventory transactions and valuations

  • Ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods

  • Manage allocations and intercompany eliminations (Revenue, COGS, Inventory)

  • Review and resolve purchase order and purchase price variances

  • Provide clarity and context on monthly results

Planning, Budgeting & Standard Cost Management

  • Prepare SAP for each planning cycles (accounts, cost centers, elements)

  • Maintain and enhance allocation models

  • Develop, maintain, and refine standard costs for labor, overhead, and materials

  • Partner with Operations to explain cost drivers, tradeoffs, and implications

  • Identify opportunities for cost control and savings

Controls, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain inventory classifications and system integrity

  • Audit SAP controls to ensure data accuracy and compliance

  • Own standard cost rolls and related system maintenance, including order settlements

  • Support internal and external audits; ensure adherence to GAAP and internal controls

  • Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste

  • Support system enhancements and adoption of best practices

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business

  • 5+ years of accounting experience

  • 3+ years of cost or manufacturing accounting experience

Preferred

  • SAP experience strongly preferred

  • Experience in a standard cost environment

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
