SUMMARY 

The Business Development Manager is responsible for outside sales, focusing on building and maintaining strong client relationships within the assigned territory. This role involves regular in-person client visits, serving as the primary point of contact, and delivering tailored technical proposals that address client-specific challenges. The business development manager leads sales planning, prospecting, and pipeline forecasting, while also managing RFQ/RFP submissions and contract reviews in coordination with internal stakeholders. They are accountable for maintaining accurate sales records in Salesforce, supporting collections, and contributing to marketing and industry events. Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, a solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to collaborate across departments to meet client needs and business objectives 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Client Relationship & Sales Leadership 

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular in-person visits and proactive communication, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned clients. 

  • Lead sales efforts in assigned territories, including strategic planning, prospecting, project discovery, and pipeline forecasting. 

  • Create and deliver tailored technical proposals and quotations that address client-specific challenges and objectives. 

  • Support collections efforts and ensure accurate sales records in CRM platforms such as Salesforce. 

Strategic Business Development & Market Expansion 

  • Develop and execute strategies to support business growth and operational excellence in alignment with organizational goals. 

  • Lead business development initiatives to expand the company’s presence across targeted regions and emerging markets. 

  • Conduct market assessments, monitor competitor activity, and share insights to inform sales strategy. 

  • Identify new market opportunities and develop business plans to capitalize on them. 

Collaboration & Integration 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Legal, HR, QHSE, Finance, Operations) to support RFQ/RFP submissions, contract reviews, and business development objectives. 

  • Support the integration of new business lines and innovative solutions into the existing portfolio to enhance value offerings. 

  • Align regional strategies with global objectives to ensure sustained business success. 

Consultative Support & Technical Guidance 

  • Provide consultative support during job planning, offering technical guidance and customized solutions. 

  • Stay current with industry trends and innovations through professional development and participation in industry organizations and events. 

Operational Excellence & Marketing 

  • Support marketing efforts by coordinating trade shows and representing the company at key industry conferences. 

  • Manage multiple accounts and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and sales targets. 

  • Ensure compliance with work environment standards, including proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols. 

Additional Duties 

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical discipline (e.g., Geology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering) is strongly preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will also be considered 

  • Minimum of three years of experience in upstream oil and gas exploration and development, core and/or fluid analysis, or related analytical services. Experience in a client-facing or technical sales capacity is strongly preferred. 

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.   

  • Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and in-person engagement. 

  • Strong consultative skills with the ability to identify client needs and deliver tailored, solution-oriented proposals. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and internal teams. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and CRM platforms such as Salesforce; able to quickly learn new tools and systems. 

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong documentation, reporting, and time management capabilities. 

  • Capable of managing multiple accounts and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and sales targets. 

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in dynamic environments. 

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across departments such as Legal, Finance, and Operations. 

  • Proficient in basic and applied math, including percentages, ratios, and proportions, for use in pricing, quoting, and forecasting. 

  • Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and a high level of accountability in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. 

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and results-driven, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through 

  • Previous experience in technical or consultative sales is preferred, particularly in laboratory, or service-based environments.
