About this Associate Senior Digital & Technology Developer role at SMEC
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver new features for in-house applications to meet project, client and unit requirements
- Maintain and extend existing applications as requirements change
- Own integrations with external systems and data sources, including scheduled transfers with retry handling and error logging
- Convert incoming data files and formats into structured form for reporting and analysis
- Control access at user, role and project level in line with client confidentiality requirements
- Design and maintain data storage, including consolidated reporting across multiple systems
- Keep applications responsive and stable under large datasets and sustained use
- Run scheduled and background processing, including automated notifications and alerts
- Manage releases so changes to live applications are tested, auditable and reversible
- Maintain code quality, documentation and peer review, and team information exchange to avoid single-person dependency
- Investigate and resolve user-reported faults across applications, data, scheduled processes and connected third-party systems
Required Technical Skills
Frontend
- Strong working knowledge of Angular and/or React with TypeScript – modules, routing forms, shared components
- Comfortable with UI libraries (e.g. Material), SCSS/CSS, forms, routing, and HTTP clients
- Experience with login/session handling, route guards, and API interceptors, and token refresh
- Experience showing dashboards/analytics, documents/media, or 3D/spatial content inside a web app, including charting, mapping and report/PDF export
Backend
- Strong Laravel experience (preferred) and solid PHP 8+ – controllers, services, Eloquent, middleware, migrations
- Experience building JSON APIs and working with external APIs
- Practical Python experience with at least one of: FastAPI, Django, Flask – for APIs, data processing, file parsing, or connector services
- Experience with integrations: REST clients, scheduled sync, webhooks, file import/export, mapping external data into DB tables, with retry handling and error logging
- Working knowledge of JWT / basic OAuth concepts, 2FA, and role/project-based access control; careful handling of API keys and secrets
- Solid MySQL and/or PostgreSQL: queries, joins, migrations, indexing basics, and related data across more than one database
- Familiarity with in-memory databases such as Redis (caching, sessions, rate limiting, locks, or queue support)
- Familiarly with message queues for email, push and background jobs
Platform & Engineering
- Git and pull request workflow, including code review practice
- Docker basics; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent)
- Comfortable debugging across browser, API logs, DB, Redis, queues, and external services
- Experience working in a multi-service or multi-repo project
Good to Have
- React Native exposure
- .NET API consumption
- Azure (App Service, containers, Key Vault)
- Message queues (RabbitMQ or equivalent)
- Experience with Mobile Application Development
- Charts, maps, PDF/export, or 3D viewer libraries
- Experience with shared document/data platforms or sensor/telemetry-style data
Experience Level
- At least 5 years in software development lifecycle
- At least 3 years full stack (frontend + backend APIs) in production
- Able to independently execute feature developments, perform code reviews, and collaborate with teammates of varying expertise and experience
- Prior experience with system integrations is a strong plus
