The opportunity
As an Associate Functional / Solutions Consultant – ETRM, you will help customers implement, adopt and improve enterprise software supporting energy and commodity trading. Working under the guidance of experienced consultants, you will connect business users and delivery teams by clarifying needs, documenting processes, configuring standard solution capabilities and validating that outcomes meet agreed requirements.
This is an early-career, customer-facing role with structured development in ETRM, business analysis and software implementation. You will contribute throughout the delivery lifecycle—discovery, requirements, process and solution design, configuration, data validation, testing, training, deployment and post-go-live support—while progressively taking ownership of defined functional work packages.
The role is based in Tokyo and supports customers and project teams across APAC. Periodic regional travel may be required.
How you will make an impact
1. You will support discovery sessions and workshops with traders, risk, operations, settlements, accounting and technology stakeholders.
2. You will document current-state and future-state processes, business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria and functional specifications.
3. You will maintain requirement traceability and help assess gaps, priorities, dependencies and change impacts.
4. You will map customer processes to standard ETRM capabilities and identify where configuration, integration or controlled extensions may be required.
5. You will assist with application setup and configuration under the guidance of senior consultants.
6. You will work with technical consultants and developers to clarify functional needs, data requirements, interfaces and expected outcomes.
7. You will prepare test scenarios, scripts and test data for functional, integration, regression and user acceptance testing.
8. You will execute tests, record evidence, log defects and support investigation, retesting and closure.
9. You will help confirm that delivered functionality meets agreed requirements and quality standards.
10. You will create and maintain process guides, configuration records, user instructions, release notes and knowledge articles.
11. You will support customer demonstrations, training sessions, readiness activities, data validation, cutover and go-live.
12. You will provide structured post-go-live support, troubleshoot functional issues and escalate technical matters appropriately.
13. You will communicate clearly with customer and internal stakeholders, providing accurate updates on assigned tasks, risks and issues.
14. You will contribute to solution demonstrations, proposals and estimations by preparing materials and product examples.
15. You will follow project delivery, security, quality and documentation standards.
16. You will build ETRM, consulting and product expertise through formal learning, coaching and practical project experience.
17. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
18. Living Hitachi Energy's core values safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.
Your Background
1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, information systems, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
2. Typically have one to three years of relevant experience in enterprise software, business analysis, consulting, energy or commodity operations, implementation, testing, application support, internships or graduate placements.
3. Possess professional-level Japanese and effective written and spoken English to collaborate with local customers and international delivery teams.
4. Have foundational knowledge of software delivery lifecycles and business analysis practices, including requirements elicitation, process modelling, traceability, validation and change control.
5. Have an interest in ETRM, commodity markets and the energy transition; exposure to ERP, CTRM/ETRM, trading, risk, finance or operational systems is desirable but not essential.
6. Have analytical thinking, structured problem-solving and attention to detail; able to translate business needs into clear documentation, communicate effectively and prioritise work to meet commitments.
7. Have working knowledge of spreadsheets, presentation tools and process/documentation techniques; exposure to SQL, data analysis or APIs is desirable.
8. Be curious, adaptable and willing to continuously learn, and ready to travel within APAC as required by customer and project needs.
