Important Immigration information: 

A Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Please be advised that Texas A&M University will NOT pay this fee. Therefore, if you need immigration sponsorship for your employment, we recommend that you consult with your private immigration counsel at your own expense to ascertain whether your current immigration status would make a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University subject to this fee.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

The Admissions Counselor I, under general supervision, handles data entry for processing applications, assesses residency status, and oversees the workflow of student information used to convey admission decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Counsels and advises students on admissions requirements, processes applications, evaluates transfer students' transcripts, maintains graduate admissions-related records and databases. and responds to inquiries about graduate and undergraduate studies.
• Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to graduate admissions.
• Be knowledgeable of information about financial aid, scholarships, and other resources.
• Provides excellent customer service and a prompt response to any questions or concerns raised by graduate students, faculty, and staff, and is well-equipped with extensive knowledge and expertise to provide accurate and helpful assistance to all those seeking their assistance.
• Participates in recruitment activities and designated area initiatives aimed at increasing graduate enrollment.
• Assists graduate students with navigating the initial enrollment process after admission.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• No prior experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Special Requirements:

• Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of four years of experience.
