Summary of Job Duties:
Academic Advisor is a position within the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success and reports to the Director of Student Success. The Advisor (integration strategist) aids university students with navigating their academic career paths, which leads to persistence, retention, and degree completion. The Advisor (strategist) provides advice and helpful resources to students regarding certain social, personal, educational, and professional development situations. These activities are designed to result in a well-rounded student academic experience, graduation, and entry into their preferred career disciplines. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze student academic performance and identify sources of problems.
Offer counsel to students individually and in group sessions.
Walk students through the university processes and procedures.
Get to know students and their unique needs to offer specialized solutions and develop long-term trusting relationships.
Help students develop a success plan for their academic careers that correspond with their skills and interests.
Encourage students to utilize campus resources.
Host crisis intervention and prevention programs.
Facilitate communication between university faculty, staff, parents, and students about any concerns, including social, personal, and academic problems.
Assist with developing programs and events for students.
Implement, and interpret assessments and inform students about potential shortcomings in their skill sets and devise strategies to remedy these.
Uses technology effectively to communicate and engage students, analyze data, and track and report student outcomes.
Oversee and fulfill a program designed to allow students to voice concerns about their student experience.
Pinpoint and inform students of potentially helpful engagement and academic and career-related opportunities.
Research and write grant proposals aimed at supporting retention programming.
Assist with new student orientation.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social development, human resources, or similar discipline with one or more years of experience in a higher education position with transferable skills and knowledge.
- A graduate degree in counseling or student affairs or a similar program is preferred.
- Demonstrable history of displaying excellent judgment.
- Knowledgeable about ever-changing student trends across generations.
- Familiarity with accessible academic and job opportunities.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Top-notch investigative, assessment, and communication skills.
- Ability to utilize technology to perform job duties and responsibilities effectively.
