ABOUT THE ROLE
As a 50 State Licensed Per Diem On-Call Nurse, you will be the voice Daymark patients reach when they call overnight or on the weekend. Serving patients across the country, you will listen to what is going on, help them understand their options, and connect them to the right next step.
This is a remote, on-call role built around a rotating schedule. Your focus is making sure no patient feels alone with a question, and making sure every after-hours contact is handed off cleanly to the patient’s care team.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Be the First Point of Contact After Hours. Answer inbound calls from patients and caregivers, bringing a warm, steady presence to people who may be anxious, uncomfortable, or unsure what to do next.
- Listen, Clarify, and Guide. Understand the patient’s concern through conversation, review the relevant context in their record, and use Daymark’s established pathways and protocols to help the patient understand what their concern may mean and what to do next. Help patients reach the appropriate resource at the moment, including guidance they can act on at home, contact with their treating oncology practice, or escalating care.
- Coordinate and Hand Off. Document each contact in the EHR and communicate open items through team channels.
- Follow Operational Standards. Adhere to Daymark’s policies, procedures, and documentation standards, including confidentiality of all patient health information in accordance with HIPAA.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Licensure: An active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license with multi-state (Nurse Licensure Compact) privileges is required. Current licensure in additional non-compact states (e.g., California, Michigan, New York, etc.) is preferred. Daymark may sponsor additional state licensure for this role.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, with oncology experience required. Experience on a nurse advice line, in telephone navigation or triage, or in remote patient support is strongly preferred.
- Sound Judgment & Communication: Ability to understand a patient’s concern through conversation and record review. A warm, clear telephone presence with patients and caregivers, and structured communication when coordinating with providers or handing off to the care team.
- Comfort Working Independently: Confident handling calls on your own, following clear protocols and escalation paths.
- Comfort with Technology: Proficiency with EHR systems and comfort with tools such as Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and cloud-based phone platforms.
- Patient-Centric Approach: A deep commitment to Daymark’s mission to support cancer patients with dignity and compassion.
- Reliability: Dependable availability during scheduled on-call weeks and timely responsiveness to patient calls.
