Worldwide-Remote Salary Report: What Remote Roles Actually Pay

· · 3 min read

The median worldwide-remote salary is $76,163, but tech roles command far more. Here's what to expect by field.

The Baseline: What Remote Roles Pay Right Now

If you're hunting for a worldwide-remote job, the median salary sits at $76,163 USD. That's across 40 salary datapoints collected this period. But that number alone won't tell you much, because the range is wide: half of all roles tracked fall between $62,325 (25th percentile) and $140,625 (75th percentile). The spread tells you something important - where you land depends almost entirely on your field.

Tech Fields Command the Highest Pay

If you work in software, data, cloud infrastructure, or AI, you're looking at a different salary universe. The table below shows median pay by major field:

Software & Web Engineering leads at $166,400 median across 7,061 roles. That's more than double the overall median. Data, AI & Analytics and DevOps, Cloud & Infrastructure both sit around $151,000-$154,000. Security roles land at $156,750. Even the smaller sample of AI Training & Data Work roles - just 52 in the data - show a $158,272 median.

The pattern is clear: if you have technical skills, especially in engineering, infrastructure, or AI-adjacent work, you can expect to negotiate in the $150,000-$166,000 range for a worldwide-remote role.

What This Means for Your Negotiation

When you land a job interview, use these numbers as your anchor:

  • If you're in Software & Web Engineering, the baseline expectation is $166,400. If you're offered less, you have data to push back.

  • If you're in DevOps or cloud roles, expect $151,125. Anything significantly below that is below market.

  • If your field isn't listed here, the overall median of $76,163 is your rough benchmark - but check the salary tracker to see if your specific role has more data.

Also note the spread: even within a field, the 25th to 75th percentile gap is often $40,000-$80,000. That spread reflects experience level, company stage, location, and negotiating power. Entry-level roles cluster lower; senior or specialized roles push higher.

The Outlier Roles (and Why They Matter Less)

The data includes a handful of extremely high salaries - a Senior IT Engineer role at $353.6M to $405.6M, for example - but these are clear outliers or data entry errors and don't represent realistic market expectations for most job seekers. Focus on the medians and percentiles instead. They're far more reliable.

Where to Find Current Openings

JobsRadar tracks 281 worldwide-remote roles right now across all industries. This salary data is updated continuously as new roles are listed. If you're in a field not shown here, that usually means smaller sample sizes - but it also means less competition.

"The median worldwide-remote salary is $76,163, but half of all roles fall between $62,325 and $140,625. Tech fields double that baseline."
