NY RISE is a specialist young people’s drug and alcohol service. Commissioned by North Yorkshire Council. NY RISE works with young people across North Yorkshire aged 10-19 and up to 25 with SEND who need specialist support around drug and alcohol use.

As a Young Persons Recovery Support Volunteer, you will be supporting the team in delivering structured, evidence based interventions with the aim of supporting and empowering individuals, and diverting them away from substance use with the overall aim of improving their life outcomes based on their need.

This role is community based, so will involve work across Scarborough. The closest base is the North Yorkshire Horizons hub, 56-60 Castle Road , Scarborough, YO11 1XE. A driving license and own car is preferred.

Tasks may include:

  • To involve and support families of young people engaging with the service
  • To provide harm minimisation advice and information to children, young people and families
  • To support the delivery of structured group work to targeted groups of young people around drugs, alcohol and associated issues
  • To work with young people across a variety of settings including schools, early help provision, youth work provision and home visits.
  • To support the delivery of targeted early interventions and brief advice across a variety of settings
  • Liaise with and work in partnership with key agencies and organisations across North Yorkshire
  • Participate in and contribute to individual and group supervisions
  • Work within national guidance and relevant legislation, i.e. CQC, NICE etc
  • To contribute to the promotion and development of new North Yorkshire Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service

Skills we would like you to bring to the role:

  • Good IT skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to keep a track of multiple tasks and report back on progress
  • Non-judgmental towards people with lived experience
  • Confident to contact people by email / phone
  • Good time keeping
  • Able to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to instruction
  • An understanding of Waythrough – information is available on our website
  • A genuine interest in being part of the mission and vision of Waythrough
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to Waythrough policies and media guidelines, engage in supervision, and complete relevant training
  • Drivers license and own car (preferred)

Location: Community based, Scarborough. Closest base: 56-60 Castle Road , Scarborough, YO11 1XE

Timing: Fully Flexible: Mon-Fri, 9-5 (15 hours maximum)

Training: Prior to start date, a volunteer is required to attend the one-day induction workshop offered online or in person. Following start date, volunteers have access to our training platform, workday, and may be asked to complete several training modules applicable to their role within their first 3 months.
