This is a full-time position providing operational mission support.  This position is supporting Amentum on a contract for the US Department of Defense and based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard MCAS Iwakuni in support of a Base Operations & Support contract with the Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy-Marine Corps.

Working Environment: Non-Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) assignment (SOFA dependents maintain their status).  Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Work Schedule: This position works at least eight hours per day, five days per week minimum.  Traditional in-person attendance expectations (non-hybrid).  The candidate participates in a 24/7 duty phone rotation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a team member for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of two activated sludge wastewater plants. Systems must be operational 24 hours per day 365 days per year.
  • Custodial responsibility for work areas and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts for the wastewater treatment plants.
  • Repair, maintenance, installation, and modernization of wastewater buildings and grounds.
  • Tests installed, modified, or repaired systems to ensure that specifications and equipment performance requirements are met.
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting results as required for level of expertise gained.
  • Interprets system operation readings and make recommendations for needed corrective actions.
  • Advise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirements.
  • Work directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking.
  • During emergencies and natural disasters, may be called to duty for more than normal (8) hour shift to assist that the Water Treatment facility and system items are in operational compliance
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:

  • Prefer experience in municipal water or wastewater treatment systems
  • Prefer facilities preventative maintenance experience
  • Prefer knowledge in the techniques, equipment, materials, and regulations used in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment equipment and systems.

Expected Skills and Competencies:

  • Work well as part of a team and independently and can handle issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Good organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications as required.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

Education:

  • Trade related program completion, High school diploma or GED required at a minimum or the country equivalent of that education.

Language Requirements:

  • Primary communication is in English (interview will be in English)
  • Preference towards speaking, reading, and writing Japanese including reading and using building diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Bilingual in speaking English and Japanese is preferred.

Professional Licenses & Certifications:

  • Wastewater related certification or equivalent experience is preferred. 
    • Such as; Sewage Treatment Engineer, "Gesuidou Kanrigijutsu Ninteishiken (Shisetu)", Sewer Line Engineer, "Gesuidou Kanrigijutsu Ninteishiken (Kanro)", Aeration Tank Technician, "Joukasou Kanrishi", Second Grade Electrical Works Engineer, “Dai Ni(2)-shu Denki Kouji-shi”, Sludge Treatment Facility Engineer, “Odei Shori Shisestu Kanrisha”,Dry Equipment Operator, “Kansou Setsubi Sagyo Shuninsha”, Fourth Grade Dangerous Material Handler, “Otusshu Dai-Yonrui Kikenbutsu Toriatsukaisha”, Worker for Special Chemicals, “Tokutei Kagaku Busshitsu-Tou Sagyo Shuninsha”, Confined Space Worker, “Sanso Ketsubou Kiken Sagyo Shuninsha”, Qualified Rigger, “Tamakake Ginousha”, Qualified Gas and Arc Welder, “Gas Oyobi Aaku Yousestu Ginousya”, Mobile and Small Crane Operator, “Idou oyobi Kogata Kuren Untenshi”, Septic Tank Technical Manager, “Joukasou Gijutsu Kanrisha”

Other Requirements:

  • SOFA Dependents are required to obtain the approved “REQUEST TO ENGAGE IN COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES OR PRIVATE EMPLOYMENT IN JAPAN” as per IIIMEF/MCIPAC MCBBO 5300.3 via Staff Judge Advocate at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan for DBIDS processing as a Contractor
  • Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date, if not currently a resident of Japan
  • Applicants in-country must hold their own visa sponsorship or residency if not an internal applicant.
  • With Company assistance, applicant will be required to apply and be accepted for a DBIDS enrollment and identification issuance prior to employment for first workday, which will be categorized as “Foreign Gov Contr”; SOFA dependents will be required to hold Contractor Identification IAW Installation Access Control MCASO prior to employment for first workday.  Contractor identification is a requirement of employment and continuance of employment.
  • Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties.  Applicant must be able to obtain (if on IDP) and maintain a Japanese Driver License, within 90 days of hire, or SOFA license and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.  Applicant must be able and willing to operate motor vehicle on Japanese roads as job duties require.  Vehicle operators will be subject to Japanese and US Military traffic citation point system. 
  • Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commuting to and from the workplace.  Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation.  Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
  • All vehicle assignments, if applicable, are based on vehicle availability, position, work assignment and where the primary operator may live. Ride sharing on and off base to residences is applicable within the local area as may be necessary.
  • Must be approved to obtain and able to maintain facility credentials/authorization.
