Veterinary Receptionist / Technician Assistant (Full-Time)

Central Animal Hospital | Stoneham, MA

Who We're Looking For

Do you love working with both animals and people? Are you someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, thrives on teamwork, and wants to build a career in veterinary medicine?

Central Animal Hospital is looking for a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Veterinary Receptionist / Technician Assistant to join our growing team!

This unique hybrid position is ideal for someone who enjoys client interaction and customer service while also having an interest in hands-on animal care.

Whether you have experience working in a veterinary hospital, are beginning your career in veterinary medicine, or are looking to expand your existing skill set, we'd love to meet you!

About the Role

This position combines the responsibilities of a Veterinary Care Coordinator (Receptionist) with entry-level Veterinary Technician Assistant duties.

The primary focus of this role will be reception, client communication, and supporting daily front desk operations, with opportunities to assist our clinical team as hospital needs and scheduling allow.

Our goal is to find someone who can confidently support the client experience while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to assist with basic patient care.

What You'll Be Doing

Reception & Client Care (Primary Responsibilities)

  • Greet clients and patients, creating a welcoming and professional experience.
  • Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, and manage client inquiries.
  • Coordinate communication between clients, veterinarians, and technical staff.
  • Educate clients on wellness recommendations, preventive care, prescription refills, and hospital services.
  • Process payments, prepare estimates, and maintain accurate client accounts.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records using ezyVet.
  • Assist with appointment flow, patient check-ins and checkouts, and daily hospital organization.
  • Support a clean, organized, and efficient reception environment.

Veterinary Technician Assistant & Patient Care (Secondary Responsibilities)

  • Assist technicians and veterinarians with safe, compassionate patient handling and restraint.
  • Help prepare examination rooms and treatment areas.
  • Obtain patient histories and assist with routine appointment preparation.
  • Support basic patient care and nursing tasks under appropriate supervision and training.
  • Assist with laboratory sample preparation and other basic diagnostic workflows as trained.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of clinical spaces and equipment.
  • Support patient flow and help the medical team deliver efficient, high-quality care.
  • Develop additional technical skills through hands-on mentorship and training.

Why Work With Us?

At Central Animal Hospital, we believe exceptional veterinary medicine starts with a supportive, collaborative team.

We offer:

  • A newly renovated, modern veterinary facility.
  • A team-oriented environment that values communication, accountability, and mutual respect.
  • Hands-on learning and mentorship from experienced veterinary professionals.
  • Opportunities to develop both client service and clinical skills.
  • Professional growth opportunities within veterinary medicine.
  • A convenient Stoneham location near Boston, walking trails, local restaurants, and an ice cream shop right across the street! 🍦

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Enjoys working with people just as much as animals.
  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Can multitask and remain organized in a busy hospital setting.
  • Is comfortable answering phones, managing appointments, and handling client concerns.
  • Has a positive attitude and is willing to assist wherever needed.
  • Demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Is eager to learn basic veterinary technical skills and grow professionally.
  • Understands that reception responsibilities are a core component of this position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior customer service or reception experience preferred.
  • Veterinary hospital, animal care, or medical office experience is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of animal handling or veterinary terminology preferred, but not required.
  • Willingness to learn veterinary software systems, including ezyVet.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both administrative and clinical teams.

Previous veterinary technician experience or certification is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.
