Job Summary

The Vascular Access Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and direction to a team of Registered Nurses (RNs) delivering vascular access services. This role ensures the provision of safe, high-quality, and evidence-based patient care through effective staff supervision, clinical oversight, workforce planning, and performance management. The Supervisor oversees daily operations of the vascular access team, including staffing, scheduling, competency assessment, clinical performance, quality improvement initiatives, and staff development. This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with hospital policies, professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention best practices. The Vascular Access Supervisor collaborates closely with physicians, nursing leadership, infection prevention, and interdisciplinary care teams to enhance patient outcomes, promote operational efficiency, and support excellence in vascular access practice. The Supervisor serves as a mentor and resource to nursing staff, fostering a culture of accountability, professional growth, and continuous improvement.

This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises and directs a team of Registered Nurses (RNs) providing vascular access services, including ultrasound-guided peripheral IV insertion, midline catheter placement, difficult vascular access consultation, and vascular access troubleshooting.

  • Oversees daily operations and workflow of the vascular access team to ensure efficient consult management and optimal patient care delivery.

  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and clinical guidance to vascular access nursing staff.

  • Manages staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and coverage to ensure appropriate resource utilization and timely response to vascular access requests.

  • Monitors team productivity, consult turnaround times, and service-level expectations to support operational excellence.

  • Conducts performance evaluations, provides ongoing feedback, and addresses employee performance and development needs.

  • Serves as the clinical expert and primary resource for evidence-based vascular access practices and standards.

  • Validates and maintains competency of vascular access nurses through ongoing assessment, education, and skills development.

  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers vascular access education and training programs for nursing and medical staff.

  • Provides education and consultation regarding evidence-based vascular access device selection, insertion, maintenance, and complication prevention.

  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and nationally recognized vascular access guidelines, including the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice and Association for Vascular Access (AVA) Standards.

  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports vascular access quality, safety, and performance metrics, implementing improvement initiatives as needed.

  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, infection prevention, quality, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and enhance service delivery.

  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, accreditation, and infection prevention initiatives related to vascular access practice.

  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships throughout the organization to promote best practices and support organizational goals.

  • Assists with recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning activities for the vascular access team.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing (BSN) required

  • Master’s of Science Nursing Degree preferred

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in State of Georgia required

  • 2+ Years Direct Nursing experience and demonstrated clinical competence

  • 5+ Years Clinical nursing experience required.

  • MGNT – Vascular Access / VACC - Vascular Access Board Certified

  • Basic Life Support Course (BLS) - AHA - American Heart Association required
