Position Overview:

MUSC is seeking an accomplished and promising investigator with a track record in implementation science-focused research to support HCC’s strong commitment to strengthening the impact of cancer research by supporting the effective implementation and sustainment of evidence-based interventions and guidelines. The successful candidate will apply implementation science methods and frameworks to optimize cancer prevention and control innovations and practices. Ideal candidates will have an established record of external funding, or demonstrate strong promise to obtaining funding, preferably from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), or other federal agencies. Applicants should exhibit a strong commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research and have a track record of mentoring early-stage investigators and contributing to academic leadership.

 

Required Qualifications:

• PhD, MD, DO, DrPH, ScD or equivalent degree with training in implementation science, medicine, epidemiology, public health, informatics and data science, nursing, psychology, anthropology, behavioral science, behavioral economics, health services, health economics, communication, decision sciences, sociology, or other related fields
• Cancer-relevant and implementation science research experience
• Peer-reviewed publication experience, commensurate with career stage

About the Department of Public Health Sciences: DPHS is home to a talented and diverse faculty with appointments in a range of public health specialties including: Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Informatics and Data Science. The department has two successful and long-standing masters and doctoral degree programs in biostatistics and epidemiology and a joint PhD/MS program with Clemson University in Biomedical Data Science and Informatics. DPHS also offers MPH degrees in biostatistics, epidemiology, and health behavior and health promotion through a residential program and an online generalist program.

 

About the Hollings Cancer Center: The Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC is the only NCI-designated Cancer Center in the State of South Carolina, serving 5.2M residents. As the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Carolina, the Hollings Cancer Center is part of an elite network of 73 cancer centers across the country recognized for our dedication to delivering cutting-edge treatments to patients and conducting innovative research to serve the unique needs of our state. The aims of the HCC Cancer Prevention and Control Program are to 1) identify biological, behavioral, and health systems-related risk factors for cancer occurrence and its consequences, 2) develop, evaluate, and translate interventions that modify risk behaviors, reduce mortality, improve quality of life, and enhance survivorship, and 3) examine individual, community, and system-level barriers and facilitators that influence the delivery, uptake, and adherence of cancer prevention and control interventions. Serving a diverse catchment area representing the entire state of South Carolina, the HCC Cancer Prevention and Control Program has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and has thematic emphasis on tobacco control, cancer health disparities, early cancer detection, and survivorship research. Growth in recent years has led to added strengths in implementation science, health services and health outcomes research, cancer epidemiology, clinical decision science and data science. The reach of the program has increased through MUSC’s Regional Health Network, which provides opportunities to extend research by leveraging a network of both inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities serving primarily rural populations across the state of South Carolina. Current Cancer Prevention and Control membership spans 3 colleges and 14 departments on the MUSC campus.
