Landscape Worker

Summary:
This position will take care of all that grows on the camp property (i.e., lawns, flowers, trees, etc.) The position is hourly and seasonal, usually from late spring to early autumn. In the summer months, this position is not only a gardener but directs summer staff gardeners.


Essential Duties:

Maintain the existing landscape of the camp by:

Watering (i.e., sprinklers, hoses and watering cans) all that grow on the property daily.

Feeding (i.e., fertilizers, mulches and soil additives) on a scheduled basis.

Pruning dead branches, vines or unwanted foliage.

Mowing and edging all lawns on a weekly basis.

Weeding, where necessary, all beds, lawns and paths.

Develop work assignments and special projects for summer staff gardeners.

Work with the hospitality coordinator on developing special projects.

Police and take care of the gardening shed by making sure that all tools are working properly and are stored in an orderly fashion. Keep the building swept and clean.

Put in new landscaping (i.e., planting flowers, shrubs and trees, laying sod, etc.)

Order and purchase various flowers, shrubs, trees, sod, etc.

Keep good records and develop schedules on what has been completed, what needs to be completed and when it needs to be completed.

Learn and document new ways of doing things better.

Working Conditions:

This position requires that the staff person be able to: lift at least fifty (50) pounds of materials waist high, operate mowers, tillers and other equipment necessary for landscaping and lawn care, stand on his/her feet for at least eight hours a day, bend, twist, carry and do other physical activities necessary to perform this job.

The majority of the job will take place out of doors, and the staff person will be exposed to heat, cold and various climate conditions as well as dirt and chemicals used in landscaping.

Education:

High school education

Continuing courses in horticulture

Experience Required For The Job:

Knowledge of area plants and shrubs highly desired.

Ability to oversee day-to-day maintenance functions, personnel and projects.

Trail West Lodge is looking for an seasonal Landscape Worker from April - November, 2027.

  • As Young Life's only nationally run family camp, we host families from all over the country during the summer, with facilities and programs designed to invite guests into a deeper relationship with Jesus and greater involvement with the Mission of Young Life. During the spring and fall, we host Christian retreats and conferences from churches and para-church organizations. We are a seasonal operation, open from March - November and using the winter months as project season.

  • Trail West is located just outside of in Buena Vista, Colorado. Though Buena Vista is a small town, it has all your necessities and a lot of outdoor activities to explore.

  • In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is outlined below. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the United States. 

  • The anticipated hourly salary for this position is $15.71 depending on relevant education and experience.
