About the Position

The Trades Generalist performs a variety of semi-skilled repair and trades tasks related to facility maintenance, modification services, breaking down, reinstallation of office furnishings, and provides general maintenance and repair of court facilities and equipment, while providing excellent customer service to judicial staff.

Position Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma or GED

Experience:

• Two years experience performing semi-skilled trades tasks

OR

Combined Education And Experience Qualifications:

• An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Other Requirements:

• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License at the time of hire.

Our Preferred Candidate Has:

• Two (2) years’ experience involving a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to include semi-skilled trades.
• Three (3) years’ experience breaking down, reinstallation of office furnishings.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

Knowledge Of:

• Methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of trades, maintenance and repair work
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions
• The principles and practices used in maintenance and repair

Skill In:

• Operation of various tools, equipment and vehicles necessary in performing assignments
• Understanding and following instructions, sketches and maps
• Understanding of breaking down, reinstallation of office furnishings
• Completing simple records and reports
• Both oral and written communication
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

Ability To:

• Lift and maneuver necessary equipment and tools
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Essential Job Tasks

• Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces, services, constructs, fabricates, inspects, installs, and/or paints county fixtures,
• equipment and facilities.
• Operates various manual and power tools and equipment.
• Reads and interprets schematics and maps.
• Estimates time, labor, equipment and materials needed for jobs.
• Orders, purchases, picks-up and delivers materials, supplies and equipment.
• Performs customer service, troubleshooting and service writing functions.
• Utilizes a personal computer for training and work order completion.
• Responds to facilities emergencies regarding water leaks, power failures, and all other disruptions to normal service.
• Routinely disassembles, reassembles, and moves modular and free-standing furniture.
• Oversees work crews. 

Working Conditions: 

This position requires exposure to outdoor elements related to weather such as high heat temperatures.  Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver necessary equipment and tools 30 to 75 pounds. May require travel to facilities throughout Maricopa County. The incumbent is required to work evening, night, or overnight shifts based on the operational needs of the department. In addition, the incumbents work schedule may change unexpectedly to support operational needs, emergencies, or to address unexpected maintenance and facility needs.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County participates in the State Retirement systems ASRS or PSPRS. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan. Judicial Branch facilities are located throughout Maricopa County.  This position may be reassigned to other locations.  Assignments will be made based upon the needs of the department.
