Job Description:
AI & Automation Analyst, Trade Support
As an AI and Operations Automation Analyst, you will partner with the Trade Support team to identify, develop, test, and implement AI-enabled solutions, automated workflows, analytics, and other technologies that improve scalability, control effectiveness, and issue resolution. You will also develop practical knowledge of post-execution trade lifecycle processes across products such as MBS, Money Market, Fixed Income, and Equities, including trade confirmation, settlement, and exception management. The team processes an average of approximately $35 billion in high-value trades per day, requiring strong attention to financial and operational risks, including Treasury Market Practices Group (TMPG) fail claims and potential overdrafts at custodian banks.
This role requires close daily collaboration with Portfolio Managers, Traders, global Operations teams, and technology partners. The Analyst must be able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, translate business and control requirements into practical technology solutions, manage competing priorities, and resolve time-sensitive trade and system issues promptly.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Operations and Trade Support teams to assess workflows, identify manual processes and control gaps, and prioritize opportunities for AI, automation, and technology-enabled improvement.
- Assist with the design, prototyping, testing, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of AI-enabled tools, automated workflows, dashboards, and exception-management solutions.
- Use data analysis and visualization tools to identify recurring breaks, operational trends, capacity constraints, control risks, and opportunities to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Translate operational needs into clear business requirements, user stories, process maps, test scenarios, and implementation plans for technology partners and service providers.
- Support user acceptance testing, production validation, issue triage, change adoption, and post-implementation reviews to confirm that solutions are effective, controlled, and sustainable.
- Promote responsible use of AI and automation by maintaining appropriate human oversight and adherence to data quality, information security, governance, and escalation requirements.
- Automate and enhance daily and monthly reporting to improve accuracy, timeliness, transparency, and management insight.
- Develop, maintain, and periodically review solution documentation, Desktop Procedures, and process maps in accordance with the established control framework.
- Build a working knowledge of post-execution trade operations across Fixed Income, Equities, and Liquidity Management, including trade matching, transmission, confirmation, settlement, and exception management.
- Provide secondary operational support by monitoring the Aladdin Trading System Dashboard, SWIFT transmissions, and the SMF Pending Queue and assisting with timely resolution of trade and message exceptions.
- Collaborate with Trading, Portfolio Management, custodians, brokers, BlackRock Solutions, and other service providers to resolve operational or technology-related issues and support effective T+0 risk mitigation.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, data analytics, computer science, information systems, or related discipline, or two to three years of relevant financial services or technology-enabled operations experience.
- Working knowledge of AI concepts and practical experience using generative AI, automation, analytics, or low-code tools to support business processes.
- Proficiency with data and productivity tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, SQL, Python, Microsoft Power Platform, or comparable technologies; candidates are not expected to be software engineers.
- Ability to understand operational workflows, identify suitable automation opportunities, and translate business needs into clear requirements for technical partners.
- Experience supporting testing, implementation, process change, or adoption of new technology in a controlled business environment.
- Understanding of responsible AI, data quality, information security, model limitations, human oversight, and appropriate escalation within a regulated environment.
- Working knowledge of fixed-income instruments such as MBS, Money Market Products, and Municipal Bonds, together with an understanding of the end-to-end trade lifecycle, is preferred.
- Experience with the Aladdin platform or trade lifecycle processing, including trade confirmation messaging, SWIFT, Aladdin Data Exchange (ADX) messages, static-data mapping, and settlement-instruction workflows, is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of BlackRock Query Language (BQL) and its application within Settlement Instruction templates and trade-routing configurations is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and client-service skills, with the ability to explain operational and technical topics to business stakeholders.
- Ability to investigate complex trade, system, and Portfolio Manager investable-cash discrepancies and coordinate timely resolution.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, technology teams, brokers, custodians, accounting teams, BlackRock, and other vendors or service providers.
