Job Description:

Position Overview:

The Tool & Die Maker serves a key function in the operation and on-going maintenance of the high-speed manufacturing equipment that produces both metal cans and ends at the Dubuque, Iowa manufacturing location. 

Duties And Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to manufacturing floor supervision and management, the Tool & Die Maker responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:   

Ø  Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and techniques, properties of various materials, and the principles of application and operations of various types of tools, jigs, fixture and dies

Ø  Make repairs or alterations to end and tongue dies including the manufacture of replacement parts as needed

Ø  Use precision measuring instruments to assemble, fit, align and adjust parts to very exact tolerances

Ø  Manage tooling inventories, setup tool packs, measure precision tolerances and work with assembly set-ups

Ø  Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts

Ø  Set-up and operation of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and other equipment to machine parts

Ø  Interact closely with the operations team to plan, trouble shoot and analyze production and equipment issues and concerns and come up with solutions

Ø  Run quality checks on product in line with customer requirements

Qualifications:

In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum Requirements:

Ø  Five to ten year(s) experience in a manufacturing environment

Ø  Thorough knowledge of working with ferrous, non-ferrous and non-metallic materials, cutting oils, grinding compounds and other procession materials

Ø  Proven competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipment

Preferred Requirements:

Ø  High School Education/GED or equivalent

Ø  Associates Degree or a vocational or technical certification or a journeyman’s card or license

Ø  High-speed packaging industry experience

Ø  Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing

Competencies:

Ø  Strong problem solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach

Ø  The ability to be able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics and parts specifications

Ø  High competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipment

Ø  Proven experience with running precision equipment as well as equipment re-build knowledge

Ø  Must be able to look at new solutions and “think creatively and strategically” to solve problems

Ø  Effective leadership skills such as conflict resolution, communication, decision making, etc.

Ø  Excellent time management and project management skills as well as the ability to multi-task

Ø  Proven math and computer skills and working knowledge of various Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

Ø  While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl  

Ø  The associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasion

Ø  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus

Ø  The employee must be able to work up to twelve (12) hours shifts, both day and evening

Ø  Employees will be required to have their own tools

Working Conditions:

Ø  The majority of work will be in a plant environment but maybe required to move around to different parts of the manufacturing floor

Ø  While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant 

Ø  The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures

Ø  The noise level is frequently loud
