Job Summary:

Job Duties:

The Department of Biology at Bucknell University invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in molecular biology to begin August 2027. We seek a committed scientist with the desire to engage with undergraduates in the classroom and the research laboratory. A Ph.D. is required. Postdoctoral experience is encouraged but not required. The successful candidate will demonstrate inclusive pedagogical practices, and cultural awareness in the classroom. Evidence of the candidate’s commitment to equity in both the classroom and in scholarly engagement must be included in the application materials. The position requires the ability and commitment to pursue a high-quality research program focused on mechanisms of molecular biology which integrates with one or more of the broader disciplines of cellular, organismal, ecological and evolutionary biology.

The successful candidate will have an annual 5-course teaching load that contributes to instruction at all levels of the Biology curriculum and also supports our commitment to the Cell Biology and Biochemistry program and the College Core Curriculum. The department is seeking an individual who will effectively teach an upper level molecular biology course with a lab, along with biology core courses. In addition, this individual will teach, on a rotating basis, a selection of the following: an upper-level biochemical methods course, an upper-level laboratory course of their choice, or university core curriculum classes such as Foundation Seminars or Integrated Perspectives courses. The University is committed to mentoring new faculty members and can provide support for course development.

Bucknell’s College of Arts and Sciences is a nationally recognized leader in undergraduate education. The Biology Department provides an undergraduate education in a liberal arts context that features close interactions with a small student body. The department is committed to student-centered inclusive pedagogical approaches, high-impact activities that foster scientific development of students, and a community that supports diversity. We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in reflective multicultural and inclusive teaching practices and who display a strong commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinarity.

Application materials should include four documents:

1. Cover letter,

2. Curriculum Vitae,

3. A teaching statement addressing the applicant’s commitment to inclusive undergraduate teaching and the applicant’s ability to teach the courses mentioned above,

4. A research plan outlining the applicant’s intentions for scholarly work at Bucknell; the strongest statements will show how that work would engage a diverse student body.

Later in the interview process, candidates may be asked to provide contact information for at least three potential references so that the committee may request confidential letters of reference.

For additional information and to apply, please go to Bucknell’s career site (careers.bucknell.edu). For specific questions about the position, contact the search committee chair, Dr. Morgan Benowitz-Fredericks ([email protected]). Consideration of applications will begin on 28 September 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
