General Description:
The Security Operations Center (SOC) Technician serves as a critical member of Chesterfield County Public Schools’ (CCPS) central safety hub, responsible for real-time monitoring, communication, and incident coordination. Working under the direction of the SOC Manager, the Technician ensures situational awareness across all school campuses by monitoring security technologies and providing immediate support to school-based staff during daily and emergency events. The incumbent facilitates a coordinated response to incidents, ensuring that information gaps are closed and resources are dispatched efficiently.Job Description:
Essential Job Functions:
Monitors security camera systems, access control systems, and other safety technologies to maintain situational awareness across the school division
Observes and identifies potential safety concerns or unusual activity and communicates information to appropriate personnel in accordance with established procedures
Serves as a point of contact for schools reporting safety concerns or incidents and ensures timely communication with appropriate staff and supervisors
Provides real-time support to school administrators, School Security Officers (SSOs), and division leadership during safety incidents
Maintains communication with Field Operations personnel and public safety partners when incidents require coordination or response
Documents security incidents, alerts, and operational activities in accordance with division procedures
Maintains logs and records related to monitoring activities, incident notifications, and operational communications
Assists in the coordination and dissemination of safety alerts and situational updates across the school division
Maintains awareness of division safety protocols and ensures monitoring procedures are followed consistently
Assists in maintaining databases and records related to safety and security operations
Supports the testing and monitoring of security technology systems including cameras, access control, and emergency management systems
May perform other duties as assigned
Budgetary Responsibility:

Report Preparation:
Prepares and submits incident reports, logs, and situational awareness updates in a timely and accurate fashion; prepares other basic reports as requested
Equipment Operation:
Proficiency in the operation of central monitoring equipment, including multi-screen camera displays, access control software, emergency management platforms, and radio communication systems
Contacts:
Maintains regular contact with the SOC Manager, SSOs, school administrators, and public safety dispatchers
Work Direction/Supervision:
This position does not provide work direction or supervision to others.
Decision-Making:
This position requires the ability to make rapid, accurate decisions during fast-moving events to ensure the appropriate notification and dispatch of resources.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
May provide input or recommendations regarding operational protocols and quality assurance standards within the SOC
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while monitoring multiple video displays. The employee must be able to use hands and fingers to operate computer controls and communicate clearly via radio and telephone. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to maintain focus on high-density data and video feeds for long durations.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily within the Security Operations Center environment, which involves high-density technology use and may include high-stress situations during emergency incidents. The role requires the ability to remain calm and effective during high-stress emergency situations. Noise levels will vary.
Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of security monitoring practices, emergency communication protocols, and the use of integrated security technology. Ability to analyze multiple data streams simultaneously and communicate critical information clearly and concisely under pressure.
Additional Job Requirements:
One year of experience in federal, state, or local law enforcement dispatch, or an associated field
