Purpose of the role

To collaborate with product owners and other technical teams involved in the product development process and utilise their knowledge of the bank’s technologies to enact the vision defined in the product roadmap. 

Accountabilities

• Provision of subject matter expertise to support the collaboration between the product owner and the technical side of product development.
• Support the development and implementation of the product strategy and vision defined in the product roadmap and communicate them with the relevant stakeholders and the development team.
• Collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather and prioritise product requirements and features based on business value and feasibility that are well defined, measurable and secure.
• Development and implementation of assessments to ensure continuous testing and improvement of product quality and performance.
• Monitoring of product performance to identify opportunities for optimisation that meets the banks performance standards.
• Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve product development and delivery.

Embark on a transformative career journey as a Technical Product Owner at Barclays, where you will own Jira backlogs, user stories and sprint priorities while contributing to product roadmaps and delivery plans. You will translate complex business needs into clear requirements and prioritised backlog items, balancing value, dependencies, delivery capacity and risk within Agile teams.

Working across a complex data and technology environment, you will partner with business stakeholders, engineers, architects, analysts and data governance teams to deliver data products, platform modernisation and migration outcomes. You will combine strong product ownership with an understanding of data platforms, cloud and analytics, ensuring delivery decisions reflect business needs, technical constraints and governance requirements.

To be successful as a Technical Product Owner, you should have experience with:

• Hands-on experience owning and prioritising Jira backlogs, user stories and sprint priorities, based on business value, dependencies and team capacity.
• Experience contributing to product roadmaps and delivery plans within Agile delivery teams.
• Proven ability to translate business problems, data consumption needs and change impacts into clear requirements, features and actionable backlog items.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across business, engineering, architecture, analysis and data governance teams.
• Working knowledge of data platforms, data products, cloud and analytics environments, including data product implementation and consumption models.
• Experience delivering data-centric transformation, platform modernisation or migration initiatives, including the prioritisation of data onboarding, data hydration and platform migration activities.
• Experience supporting the migration of workloads from legacy platforms such as Teradata, Hadoop, Oracle or SAS to cloud-based environments.
• Proven ability to identify and manage technical, data and business dependencies across multiple teams and workstreams, balancing business priorities, architecture constraints and delivery risk.
• Understanding of data governance, data quality, security, privacy, regulatory and control requirements within delivery programmes.
• Experience defining and measuring business outcomes, product adoption and benefits realisation for data and technology products.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience working across multiple delivery teams, domains or stakeholder groups in a complex or matrixed organisation.

• Experience managing competing priorities and shared or partial ownership boundaries.
• Exposure to regulated, risk-led or control-heavy environments, including engagement with governance or assurance forums.
• Awareness of how delivery decisions interact with risk, compliance and controls.

You may be assessed on the critical skills relevant for success in the role, including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as role-specific technical skills.

This role can be based in Knutsford or Northampton, with a hybrid working model that requires a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
