OPRD is recruiting for two permanent Park Ranger 1 positions. Both roles share core responsibilities in park operations, customer service, maintenance, and visitor engagement. Each position also has a primary focus area, outlined below.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Desired Attributes:

Shared Desired Attributes (Applicable to Both Park Ranger 1 Positions):

  • Janitorial & Facility Maintenance: Experience performing facility and landscape maintenance, including basic janitorial, plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds‑keeping, and safe use of related tools and equipment.

  • Customer Service & Visitor Support: Experience providing customer service and resolving complaints related to day‑use, overnight camping, and park rule enforcement.

  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Experience working with diverse teams of employees, volunteers, and park hosts to help coordinate and accomplish daily tasks, park projects, and community events.

  • High‑Visitation Park Operations: Experience working in parks with overnight camping, day‑use facilities, multi‑use trails, and equestrian facilities.

  • Campground Operations: Experience with cash handling, fee collection, deposits and reservation systems.

  • Computer & Administrative Skills: Experience using computers for data entry, emailing, creating letters/memos, generating spreadsheets, scheduling volunteers, and event coordination.

Additional Desired Attributes for the Volunteer Service Lead Position:

  • Interpretation & Public Engagement: Experience developing and delivering park presentations and community events within resource interpretation programs.

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Coordination: Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers to support park operations, events, and projects.

Preference may be given to candidates who have: Direct experience working in day‑use areas, overnight campgrounds, or outdoor recreation parks, especially in roles involving visitor interaction, rule enforcement, campground operations, or facility maintenance.
