The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond invites applications for the position of Teaching Faculty of Italian Studies and Director of the Italian Intensive Language Program, to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, continuing position with benefits. The position includes opportunities for promotion to Senior Teaching Faculty after successful completion of a probationary period and triennial review.

The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of seven classes per academic year, primarily in the intensive language sequence, with opportunities to teach one upper-level course per academic year. Directorship responsibilities will include coordinating language and drill instructors, administering the language curriculum for the beginning and intermediate levels, developing language materials and teaching methods, and overseeing the Italian Club and other extracurricular activities for majors and minors. There will also be opportunities to mentor undergraduate research. We welcome applicants with experience teaching in a variety of educational settings and who demonstrate a commitment to continuous growth as educators.

Applicants must hold an MA or Ph.D. in Italian, Romance Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related field with a primary focus on Italian before the start date. Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Italian and English and the ability to teach effectively at all levels of the undergraduate Italian language curriculum are required.  The starting salary for the position is budgeted at $77,000.
