Job Description:

The Tax Advisor provides technical tax and tax-compliance reporting across the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring that tax matters and risks are managed in accordance with local legislation. Based in Singapore, the position involves staying abreast of evolving tax laws, supports tax compliance, tax reporting, audits and appeals, and requires strong technical tax expertise and financial acumen. The role reports to the Tax Manager and works closely with the internal stakeholders (Accounting, Legal, Treasury) and external advisors.


Main Responsibilities

  • Preparing tax schedules for statutory tax calculations, annual tax computations and tax filings for APAC entities.
  • Supporting tax compliance reporting for other related matters within the APAC region such as VAT, WHT, TP, and to ensure timely and accurate filings across relevant jurisdiction.
  • Support and coordinate with internal stakeholders and external tax consultants on GST Assisted Compliance Assurance Programme (ACAP).
  • Perform GST/VAT analysis on business transactions and review GST/VAT returns and supporting schedules for the APAC entities.
  • Review existing processes, controls and documentation to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Support tax audits, tax appeals and responses to questions or information requests from tax authorities.
  • Assist with tax incentive matters, including GTP/AIS application renewals, tax queries and surveys
  • Prepare detailed tax accounting position papers, including robust tax technical reasoning, to support discussions between Tax and Corporate Control and provide documentation for external auditors.
  • Proactively prepare advice on tax filing positions, audits and rulings, working with regional entities and external tax consultants to ensure compliance with Group policies and business models.
  • Conduct tax research for new business ventures across jurisdictions and liaise with external/internal stakeholders as required.
  • Provide support, as required, in other tax areas including indirect taxes, transfer pricing and Pillar Two.
  • Review and provide advice on tax related clauses in commercial contracts.
  • Actively exploring and identifying opportunities for streamlining using tax technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in projects implementation for system changes, including but not limited to e-invoicing.
  • Develop and deliver tax training to raise awareness of relevant tax changes and functions as necessary.
  • Keeping abreast of eloving tax changes and analyze impact to APAC entities.
  • Supporting M&A function in their tax queries or due diligences
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as directed by the manager.

Education

  • Certified Public Accountant with a major in taxation, Accredited Tax Practitioner, or equivalent professional qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 – 8 years of tax experience within a multinational company and/or a Big Four professional services firm.
  • Experience in an Asia regional role covering multi-country tax rules and cross-border transfer pricing requirements.
  • Experience in the energy, oil and gas, commodities or shipping sectors is preferred.

Skills

  • Deep technical knowledge of corporate tax, withholding tax, tax compliance and tax reporting.
  • Working knowledge of indirect taxes, VAT/GST, transfer pricing and international tax matters.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to assess financial and tax data and prepare detailed technical position papers.
  • Experience in working with system changes and tax technology.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and demonstrate ownership and accountability.
  • Collaborative, self-motivated and proactive team player with a hands-on attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese where required to communicate with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
