The Role and Impact

As a System Software Engineering PhD Intern, you will contribute to the design, development, and validation of system software across multiple layers of the software stack, including firmware, drivers, operating systems, and middleware. This hands-on role allows you to apply your knowledge and build skills while working on impactful projects that support Intel's business goals. Your contributions will play a key role in optimizing Intel platforms and technologies for specific domains and market segments.

The Intel Foundry team is dedicated to developing and enabling advanced semiconductor manufacturing solutions that power Intel's leading-edge technologies. As a part of the LTD CMT Litho Tools organization, this internship provides an opportunity to engage in innovative software development and optimization work that supports Intel's broader mission of delivering world-class products to its customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate system software across firmware, drivers, operating systems, and middleware layers.
• Collaborate on cross-stack software optimization for platforms and technologies.
• Contribute to reference platform development for targeted domains and market segments.
• Engage in hands-on projects that explore new methodologies and solutions in system software engineering.
• Learn and apply technical knowledge while building career-relevant skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidate must be pursuing PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics.
• Candidate must have demonstrated 1 year programming experience in C/C++, Java or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidate should have worked on a project in fields of Computational geometry, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Numerical optimization, scientific computing.
• Flexibility to work a 3-month internship during the Summer of 2027 located in Hillsboro, OR.
• 3.5 or higher GPA is preferred

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $149,598.00-149,602.00 USD

 

 

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Our standard internship rates are based on your degree, location, and the job role. Work Model for this Role
