Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Disability Resource Center. The student worker for the Disability Resource Center (DRC) will be responsible for providing inquiring students with information regarding receiving ADA approved accommodations, writing the accommodation letters, scheduling appointments for students who take their exams in the DRC office, and proctoring exams. This position will also assist with data entry, scanning, filing, and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a reliable work history, interpersonal and organizational skills, and be able to maintain a professional appearance. While also doing other tasks like note taking and other as assigned.

At times, the student worker may be asked to serve as the initial point of contact for the DRC Office when greeting visitors (faculty, staff, student, community member, legislation, etc).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme diligence with confidential information and materials.
  • Serve as test proctor and assistant (reader and/or scribe).
  • Serve as a note taker.
  • Guide/advise students (current and prospective) in completing DRC related electronic forms.
  • Create content appropriate DRC social media posts (Instagram).
  • Serve as a role model/mentor to new student workers and assist in their training.
  • Document all interaction with students in case management systems.
  • Participate in intensive initial and ongoing trainings to develop knowledge and skills necessary to best serve students with disabilities, and learn and follows all Disability Resource Center policies and procedures.
  • Uphold office commitment to service quality, student empowerment, diversity, teamwork, and respect for student confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide basic office information pertaining to obtaining DRC support services.
  • Greet visitors, answers phones, screens transfers, routes calls to voicemail, or takes messages.
  • Provide professional, accurate and service oriented reception in a busy office.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Sensitivity to students with special needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student documentation.
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to follow instructions, show initiative, work well with others, and stay focused at the task at hand.
  • Exercise good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, office systems, and procedures.

Work Hours:

Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.

Hourly Rate:

$14.00 per hour.
