Arts & Sciences Learning Design & Technology Department seeks Student Testing Proctors to support the Computer-Based Testing Facility (CBTF) during the Fall 2026 term. Proctors play a critical role in delivering secure, high-quality testing experiences for students and faculty, including computer-based exams, paper-based exams, and SDAC-accommodated testing. This is a high-demand, detail-oriented position in a secure testing environment with significant responsibility, providing exam integrity, procedural fidelity, and excellent customer service.

Students are strongly preferred to begin the week before classes start (approximately August 20, 2026) through the Fall 2026 semester to assist with exam space setup, system checks, and procedural preparation. Some students may have the opportunity to work earlier in the summer if they can dedicate sufficient time to refining training, center processes, procedures, and workshops.


To carry out the following duties:

  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and commitment to academic integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a secure, high-responsibility environment.
  • Ability to accurately and consistently follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication skills and level of comfort supporting peers and faculty.
  • Proctor computer-based and paper-based exams in the CBTF and other designated on-Grounds location.
  • Support secure exam delivery, maintaining test integrity, confidentiality, and student privacy at all times.
  • Provide direct support to student testers, including check-in, instructions, troubleshooting, and monitoring during exams.
  • Serve as front-line support for faculty clients delivering exams, including communicating procedures and returning exam materials.
  • Run exams end-to-end: room setup, student check-in, exam support, complete documentation/reports, clean-up, and post-exam procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, quiet, and orderly testing environment.
  • Accurately follow and apply center processes and procedures for different exam types and accommodations.
  • Adapt to a flexible schedule based on testing demand and faculty needs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and CBTF staff.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, including providing feedback, identifying issues, and suggesting process enhancements to Supervisor/leadership staff.
  • Complete required administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling support, handling exam materials, basic clerical work.)
  • Attend all required trainings (attendance is mandatory.)

Training & Onboarding

  • All proctors must attend required CBTF trainings before working independently
  • Applicants who can start early (late summer or earlier) should clearly list their availability in their application materials.

Duties will vary according to position.

Undergrad student wage position for up to 20 hours per week during the semester.

Time Commitment & Scheduling

  • Minimum availability of 6+ hours per week during the semester.
  • During high-volume testing periods (midterms and finals), students should expect hour requirements of 8–10 hours per week, depending on demand.
  • Schedule will vary by week and may include mornings, afternoons, or evenings.

Application Instructions:

  • A brief, current resume. 
  • A one-page Statement of Interest addressing reliability, attention to detail, and interest in supporting secure testing (if AI is used, include a brief description of its role.)
  • The name of one UVA reference who can speak to the qualities listed above. 

Compensation: $17.00/hr.

Graduate students may be eligible for higher pay based on responsibilities.

Federal Work Study students encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Resume, Statement of Interest, One Reference.

Education: Current undergrad UVA student in good academic standing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
