About the Role
As a Structural CAD Design Manager, you will lead our structural CAD design team and shape how drawings are produced across a wide range of renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in CAD production, standards, and automation who takes full ownership of the team’s deliverables, sets the direction for CAD workflows, and guides designers through complex, non-routine design challenges. This role partners closely with structural engineering leadership and other disciplines to plan resources, manage schedules, and ensure our drawings meet project and code requirements across large- and small-scale solar (PV), battery storage (BESS), and high-voltage (HV) projects.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Lead and manage the structural CAD design team, assigning work, balancing resources across projects, and holding the team accountable for quality, schedule, and budget.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for structural drawing production in Autodesk products, including construction drawings, plan views, sections, elevations, and connection and foundation details for solar (PV), battery storage (BESS), and high-voltage (HV) projects.
- Oversee the modeling and detailing of foundations (driven piles, screw and helical piles, and cast-in-place concrete), overhead steel structures, and non-building structures, reviewing team output for accuracy and constructability.
- Own the structural group’s CAD standards, templates, and tool palettes, and organize the CAD environment (folder structures, layer and block libraries, plot styles, and support paths) so the team works from a single, consistent setup.
- Set file organization and revision control practices across all drawing sets, ensuring deliverables are accurate, current, and issued on schedule.
- Partner with structural engineering leadership and project managers to plan workload, forecast staffing needs, and communicate design status, risks, and schedule impacts to project teams and clients.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and geotechnical teams to ensure design integration and constructability, and confirm deliverables meet applicable Client, EPC, Owner, and Utility standards.
- Coach, mentor, and develop CAD designers at all levels, including Lead CAD Designers, through regular feedback, training, and career development.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase team efficiency and support the firm’s business goals.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- A B.S. in engineering, technology, or a construction-related field from an accredited institution, or acceptable equivalent.
- 8+ years of structural CAD design experience, including experience leading or supervising designers, with expert-level proficiency in Autodesk products.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing tool palettes, CAD standards, and templates, and organizing CAD environments and file structures for a multi-user team.
- Expert knowledge of structural detailing for foundations, steel, and concrete, with the ability to review and approve clean, coordinated construction documents.
- Proven ability to lead people and projects, including assigning work, managing competing priorities, and developing staff.
- Strong communication skills and sound judgment, with the ability to solve non-routine problems, influence cross-discipline teams, and make decisions that support business results.
- BIM experience is a plus but not required.
- Hands-on experience with AutoLISP routines; VBA, Python, or other scripting experience is a plus but not required.
- Civil 3D experience is a plus but not required.
