Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Job Summary: NPS Pharmacy operates as a closed-door pharmacy embedded within Mental Health Cooperative’s care model. The pharmacy supports medication access, dispensing, coordination, and operational pharmacy services for individuals receiving behavioral health, substance use, crisis, integrated health, and community-based services through MHC. The Staff Pharmacist supports daily pharmacy operations, prescription verification, consumer communication, provider coordination, technician workflow support, inventory control, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity. This position works closely with the Director of Pharmacy and the pharmacy team to maintain safe, compliant, efficient, and consumer-centered pharmacy services.

Work Schedule and Setting

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM.

  • Closed-door pharmacy environment serving MHC programs and consumers

  • No routine evening or weekend shifts

  • Collaborative work with providers, nurses, case managers, care managers, and pharmacy technicians

  • Current weekday fill averages support a rounded planning estimate of approximately 375-400 fills per weekday

What You Will Do
Dispensing, Verification, and Consumer Support

  • Verify prescriptions accurately and efficiently according to pharmacy law, internal policy, and professional standards.

  • Support daily dispensing operations, technician workflow, prescription problem-solving, and medication access needs.

  • Provide consumer counseling and medication-related assistance when appropriate and within pharmacist scope.

  • Assist with refill coordination, prior authorization support, rejection troubleshooting, and provider communication as needed.


Behavioral Health, LAI, and MAT Pharmacy Support

  • Support procurement, dispensing, inventory management, and coordination of long-acting injectable medications.

  • Support medication-assisted treatment dispensing, inventory management, grant-supported medication programs, and related pharmacy operations.

  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, case managers, and care teams to support timely medication access and continuity of care.

  • Assist with medication access workflows for high-cost, restricted, complex, or payer-sensitive therapies.

Pharmacy Operations and Inventory Support

  • Support inventory management, purchasing workflows, medication availability review, and supply coordination as assigned.

  • Assist with controlled substance accountability, documentation, and related operational safeguards.

  • Support expired medication review, return-to-stock processes, and other recurring operating procedures as assigned.

  • Contribute to workflow improvement, quality review, and operational problem-solving within the pharmacy.

Compliance, Systems, and Audit Readiness

  • Maintain compliance with applicable Tennessee pharmacy law, company policy, HIPAA, controlled substance requirements, and internal pharmacy procedures.

  • Utilize PioneerRx and related pharmacy systems to support dispensing, documentation, inventory, and reporting activities.

  • Support Pyxis / automated dispensing cabinet workflows, including coordination, inventory support, documentation, and review activities as assigned.

  • Assist with PBM audit readiness, Board of Pharmacy readiness, documentation retrieval, and compliance follow-up activities.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with pharmacy technicians to support accurate, efficient, and compliant daily operations.

  • Communicate professionally with prescribers, nurses, case managers, care managers, consumers, and external partners.

  • Participate in cross-functional problem-solving related to medication access, affordability, refill continuity, and care coordination.

  • Support a team-oriented work environment grounded in reliability, accountability, and service to vulnerable consumers.


What Success Looks Like

  • Prescriptions are verified accurately and workflow interruptions are addressed promptly.

  • Consumers, providers, and internal teams receive timely pharmacy support and clear communication.

  • Pharmacy operations remain compliant, organized, and audit-ready.

  • Medication access barriers are identified, escalated, and resolved when possible.

  • The Staff Pharmacist contributes to coverage stability and supports Director/PIC capacity.


Required Qualifications

  • PharmD or equivalent pharmacist degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

  • Active Tennessee pharmacist license in good standing, or ability to obtain Tennessee licensure before start date.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, accurate dispensing.

  • Ability to work effectively with pharmacy technicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Strong professional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to compliance, documentation accuracy, and consumer-centered service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PioneerRx or similar pharmacy management systems.

  • Experience in behavioral health, safety-net, community, outpatient, or closed-door pharmacy settings.

  • Experience supporting long-acting injectable medication fulfillment, medication-assisted treatment dispensing, controlled substance workflows, or Pyxis/automated dispensing cabinet processes.

  • Experience with payer rejections, prior authorizations, medication access programs, PBM audits, or pharmacy reimbursement workflows.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including providers, nurses, case managers, and care managers.

The Staff Pharmacist helps reduce barriers by supporting accurate dispensing, provider coordination, medication access troubleshooting, and continuity of care.
