About the Role

We’re seeking a Staff Mobile Engineer to own the technical strategy and architecture for Rezilient’s member mobile app, the main way our members experience their care between visits. This role is for a hands-on senior technical leader who has built and scaled consumer-grade native mobile health apps, and who will lead the rebuild of our app alongside a new brand, making multi-quarter platform decisions that are costly to reverse and being trusted to get them right.

You’ll work as a triad with our Senior Product Manager and Senior UX Designer for member experience, partner with Clinical and Engineering leaders to connect the app to care delivery, wearable device data, and AI-enabled features, and serve as technical lead and mentor for our front-end and mobile engineers. Your work determines whether members want to come back to the app, and how safely and reliably Rezilient delivers care through it, advancing our mission to make humane healthcare truly abundant.

Key Responsibilities

• Own mobile technical strategy and architecture for the member app across iOS and Android, making multi-quarter decisions (including where our React Native codebase should stay cross-platform and where it should go native) that the organization trusts to be right.
• Lead hands-on delivery of the rebuilt member app alongside our new brand, writing production code while setting the patterns other engineers follow.
• Set mobile engineering standards that become the default way to build: app architecture, state and offline data handling, performance budgets, accessibility, testing, and code review.
• Build mature release engineering: automated build, test, and release pipelines, code signing, phased rollouts, feature flags, over-the-air update policy, App Store and Google Play review, and crash-free rate and performance reported weekly.
• Design secure, low-friction authentication and on-device data handling for PHI, including biometrics, session management, secure storage, and HIPAA-aligned logging and analytics.
• Architect how health and device data reach the member, including Apple HealthKit, Android Health Connect, and third-party wearables APIs, so data is useful to members and trustworthy in clinical workflows.
• De-risk the hardest mobile bets before they consume the organization, including safe patterns for AI-enabled features in members’ hands and for AI-assisted development of the app itself.
• Work as a triad with our Senior Product Manager and Senior UX Designer to shape a consumer-grade experience, using product analytics, experimentation, and member feedback to drive engagement and retention, and grow our front-end and mobile engineers through mentorship, pairing, and design reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 12–15 years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years building and shipping native mobile apps and a track record of owning mobile architecture through significant scale or growth.
• Deep, hands-on expertise in native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI and UIKit, Swift concurrency, Xcode) and native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines and Flow, Gradle) development.
• Shipped and scaled at least one consumer (B2C or B2B2C) mobile health, wellness, or fitness app with a large active user base, with strong product instincts for onboarding, engagement, and retention.
• Experience integrating health data platforms and connected devices, such as Apple HealthKit, Android Health Connect, Bluetooth LE, or third-party wearables APIs.
• Deep expertise in mobile security and compliance, including HIPAA-aligned handling of PHI on device, secure authentication (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, biometrics), and encrypted local storage.
• Proven mobile release discipline: CI/CD (e.g., Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions), automated testing (e.g., XCTest, Espresso, Detox, Maestro), crash and performance monitoring (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry), and app store release management.
• Proven technical leadership, making architectural decisions across teams, growing senior engineers, and partnering with Product, Design, and Clinical leaders on strategy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience with React Native and TypeScript, including the New Architecture (Fabric, TurboModules) and native module development, with sound judgment about when to go native.
• Experience leading a mobile app rebuild or re-platform, including incremental migration of a live app without disrupting members.
• Experience shipping AI- or LLM-powered features in a consumer mobile app.
• Familiarity with regulatory and platform considerations for digital health apps, such as FDA general wellness versus software-as-a-medical-device boundaries and App Store health data policies.
• Experience in a startup or growth-stage environment.
