Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Cybersecurity Analyst - 19969 to serve as a primary technical authority, Information System Security Engineer (ISSE), and domain expert in system hardening, security architecture, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

 

In this high-level technical individual contributor role, you will lead the design, assessment, and tailoring of complex cybersecurity architectures across enterprise, mission, and classified network environments. You will specialize in translating NIST SP 800-53 security controls, CNSSI 1253 overlay baselines, and Organization-Defined Parameters (ODPs / OD controls) into scalable, automated security baselines and continuous monitoring solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Architecture & NIST Compliance Leadership

•              Lead the engineering, tailoring, and operational execution of NIST SP 800-53 (Rev 4/5) security controls, CNSSI 1253, and DoD RMF Knowledge Service guidelines across complex system architectures.

•              Define, document, and enforce program-specific Organization-Defined Parameters (ODPs) and Organization-Defined (OD) control implementations to satisfy Authorizing Official (AO) and Security Control Assessor (SCA) risk tolerances.

•              Architect and implement system hardening baselines across heterogeneous environments (Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SAN/NAS storage, virtualized infrastructures, and cloud instances).

•              Serve as the lead ISSE driving Security Test & Evaluation (ST&E) plans, Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) management, Body of Evidence (BoE) compilation, and Authorization to Operate (ATO) packages.

Technical Execution & Automation

•              Lead vulnerability assessment, SIEM logging, and endpoint protection implementations using enterprise tools (e.g., Tenable ACAS, Rapid7, Trellix, Splunk, and DISA STIG Viewer/SCC).

•              Develop automated scripts (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to continuously audit, remediate, and report on security compliance and configuration drift against NIST/DISA baselines.

•              Evaluate system requirements, perform risk trade studies, and collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software, and Network IPTs to integrate cybersecurity into total system design lifecycle (DevSecOps).

•              Represent Northrop Grumman cybersecurity posture in customer Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), government inspections, and executive vulnerability reviews.

•              Mentor senior and principal cyber engineers in security control allocation, risk assessment methodologies, and advanced compliance frameworks

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of relevant experience, or a Masters’ Degree with 10 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 8 years of relevant experience; 4 additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.

 

Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.

 

Current DoD 8140/8570 compliant IAM Level III or IASAE Level II/III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+ / Security+, CISSP-ISSEP, CISM).

 

NIST & RMF Domain Expertise:

o             Advanced subject matter expertise in NIST SP 800-53, CNSSI 1253, and DoD 8510.01 (RMF) full lifecycle execution.

o             Demonstrated track record defining and implementing Organization-Defined Parameters (ODPs) and custom security control baselines for government defense systems.

o             Practical experience preparing and maintaining technical security artifacts for ATO assessments (e.g., SSP, SAP, RAR, SCTM).

Technical Skills: Hands-on experience configuring DISA STIGs, SIEM tools (Splunk), vulnerability scanners (ACAS/Nessus), and host security tools (Trellix/HBSS).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

•              Active Top Secret with current SAP/SAR access.

•              Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or Systems Engineering.

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
