Role and Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant, Inventory will sit in the Finance function, reporting to the Inventory Accounting Manager. This is a hands-on role: you'll handle the day-to-day inventory and COGS accounting, reconciliations and cycle counts with support from the Inventory Accounting Manager as you grow. You'll work closely with the Inventory Accounting Manager to keep the monthly close accurate and on schedule, and you’ll work closely with Supply Chain partners to keep inventory data clean.
Financial Reporting and Month-End Close
- Prepare reconciliations and variance analyses for inventory and COGS as part of the monthly close.
- Follow documented close procedures and flag opportunities to tighten them as you learn the process.
Inventory, COGS, and Supply Chain Accounting
- Support day-to-day inventory accounting across raw materials and finished goods, working closely with the Inventory Accounting Manager.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Fulfillment teams to ensure co-manufacturing, freight, warehousing, and fulfillment costs are recorded accurately.
- Support inventory valuation and COGS accounting in NetSuite using average costing, including assisting with landed cost capitalization and variance analysis.
- Help maintain inventory integrity across internal systems and external partners (co-manufacturers and 3PLs) — performing reconciliations and helping resolve discrepancies.
- Participate in and help coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including with 3PLs and contract manufacturers.
Internal Controls and Systems
- Follow inventory accounting policies, procedures, and controls (valuation, reserves, counts), and help strengthen the related documentation as the business scales.
- Build growing proficiency in NetSuite's inventory and costing workflows; surface process or system friction you notice along the way.
- Prepare inventory-related schedules for audits and respond to auditor and advisor requests as directed.
Cross-Functional Partnership and Strategic Support
- Help translate inventory data into clear, digestible summaries for the Inventory Accounting Manager and cross-functional partners.
- Flag risks, trends, or anomalies you notice in inventory levels, shrink, or cost inflation.
- Support strategic initiatives — new channel launches, pricing changes, new co-manufacturers or 3PLs, system enhancements — with data pulls and analysis.
Requirements
- Foundational understanding of US GAAP, with growing exposure to inventory and COGS accounting.
- Comfort working in an ERP system; hands-on NetSuite experience is a plus but not required — you'll build deep NetSuite fluency in this role.
- Interest in or early exposure to inventory accounting in a CPG, manufacturing, or inventory-heavy environment (co-manufacturers and/or 3PLs) is a plus.
- 1–3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles; exposure to a high-growth or CPG environment is a plus but not required.
- High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Self-starter who's eager to learn, build good habits early, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear communicator, comfortable asking questions and flagging issues early.
- Excitement about helping build an early-stage CPG company.
