Overview
The Architecture & Technology team sets standards for technology at Mastercard and enables 90% of Mastercard’s software engineering staff to focus on delivering customer value by eliminating undifferentiated heavy lifting necessary to align with those standards. Mastercard builds and operates large scale > 10 Billion transactions / day, highly distributed systems the require exceptional levels of reliability. A&T is looking for a Sr. Principal, Software Engineering to drive Mastercard’s Technology, Architecture and Design, and Engineering practices. This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the company’s senior technical leadership. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology and software development, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and can lead by influence.
Role
This position is a for a Senior member of Mastercard’s Principal Engineering community. Principal Engineers at Mastercard are exemplary practitioners of their craft and pragmatic visionaries. • Work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services/programs.
• Work with business/product owners to architect and deliver on new services to introduce new products.
• Contribute and lead initiatives to improve the craftmanship of Software Engineering teams.
• Drive the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies.
• Lead projects to prototype and prove concepts for new technologies, application frameworks, and design patterns.
• Apply judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing interests.
• Take on organization-wide and public speaking engagements and publishes white papers and blogs on relevant and emerging technical topics.
• Consult across teams and across program lines to identify synergies and reuse opportunities.
• Conduct technical interviews for hiring engineering staff and raising the performance bar.
• Mentor and guide software engineers and leads in the team to improve engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance.
• Engage with external technical communities to extend our reach and benefit from the discovery outside of Mastercard and our industry.
• Run Principal review architecture meetings and drive resolutions to enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory needs.
• Mentor and coach Principal Engineers across the enterprise.
• Assist people managers in the talent management process in hiring strong engineering talent and running performance evaluations.

All About You
• You have current, deep, hands-on software engineering experience – architecture, design, and implementation – on large scale, distributed systems.
• You have strong computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, software design, performance analysis, networking, and mathematics for computer science.
• Your communications and technical skills make you a recognized technical leader.
• You are passionate about new technology and can dive deep to form an objective evaluation and opinion.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay Ranges

Remote - Colorado: $212,000 - $339,000 USD
