The manager also drives measurement & verification, reporting, and compliance that support organizational goals in efficiency, cost optimization, and environmental stewardship.

  • Set or advise on energy goals; monitor progress using advanced analytics, dashboards, and energy management systems.
  • Maintain and analyze energy datasets, building utility consumption models, and performance trends to identify reduction opportunities.
  • Conduct or oversee building walk-throughs, energy audits, and investment-grade assessments to identify energy conservation measures.
  • Partner with Facilities and Engineering to integrate energy-efficient design into new construction and capital improvement projects.
  • Support measurement and verification (M&V) planning to validate project performance and savings.

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Manage global energy and water procurement projects from strategy development to execution.
  • Act as primary point of contact for strategic suppliers, utility providers, and consultants.
  • Lead commercial supplier qualification and performance evaluations; ensure alignment with corporate safety, ethics, and sustainability requirements.
  • Develop and implement supplier strategies that optimize cost, supply reliability, risk mitigation, and quality.
  • Partner with Legal to define contracting strategy; lead negotiation of terms, pricing, and commercial structures (e.g., PPAs, VPPAs, gas supply).
  • Serve as the organization’s representative in supplier negotiations, quarterly business reviews, and executive-level updates.

Project Management & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Drive energy-related project pipelines, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Sustainability, Engineering, and Finance teams to define project objectives and manage progress.
  • Perform risk assessments for engineering, commercial, and operational components of proposed programs.
  • Provide technical review and oversight for performance contracting and other complex energy projects.
  • Support continuous improvement of control strategies, reporting capabilities, and energy-related digital tools.

Financial & Regulatory Oversight

  • Manage and forecast energy budgets; provide insights into rate structures, commodity markets, and procurement opportunities.
  • Analyze cost impacts, supply-side options, and utility rate structures to guide decision-making.
  • Track state, federal, and international policies affecting energy procurement, sustainability reporting, and operational compliance.
  • Identify and manage grants, incentives, or financing mechanisms for energy projects.

Communication, Reporting & Engagement

  • Prepare and communicate energy performance reports for internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for global energy and water categories, providing market intelligence and guiding long-term planning.
  • Deliver executive-level presentations on procurement outcomes, supplier performance, and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead internal awareness, education, and stakeholder engagement activities related to energy and sustainability.

Qualifications/Requirements

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in energy management, energy procurement, facilities engineering, sustainability, or related fields.
  • Strong background in analyzing building systems (HVAC, lighting, controls), utility data, and energy performance metrics.
  • Experience using energy modeling tools, M&V methodologies, and energy/utility accounting software.
  • Demonstrated success in contract negotiation, supplier management, and category strategy development.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, equipment specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to lead multiple large-scale projects with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.

Preferred

  • PMP, CEM, LEED AP, CEP, or similar professional certifications.
  • Experience with energy procurement structures such as VPPAs, PPAs, and wholesale market mechanisms.
