Job Description
 

Position-Specific Job Requirements

1. Develop strong relationships with GFS, Corporate Tax, Market Finance, external service providers, and business stakeholders.

2. Support the centralized preparation and review of indirect tax compliance deliverables including VAT, Intrastat, EC Sales, and other indirect tax filings where applicable.

3. Coordinate the collection, validation, and analysis of financial data required for indirect tax reporting and compliance activities.

4. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of indirect tax, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and compliance submissions.

5. Perform indirect tax account reconciliations and support resolution of tax-related balance sheet and P&L items.

6. Partner with RTR, OTC, PTP, Supply Chain, and Tax teams to ensure transactions are correctly reflected for indirect tax purposes.

7. Maintain compliance with company policies, internal controls, Worldwide Controller's Manual requirements, and local statutory obligations.

8. Identify indirect tax risks, control gaps, and process inefficiencies and recommend appropriate remediation actions.

9. Contribute to the development, documentation, and maintenance of indirect tax processes, controls, and standard operating procedures for the GFS Centralisation Model.

10. Support indirect tax compliance reporting requirements under applicable local regulations and tax legislation.

11. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through automation, standardization, and process optimization.

12. Support tax technology and ERP initiatives, ensuring indirect tax requirements are appropriately incorporated into system enhancements and process changes.

13. Act as a champion for the Global Financial Solutions operating model and support finance transformation initiatives.

14. Build effective partnerships across global functions and diverse geographic locations.

15. Quickly establish credibility with stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

16. Ability to travel as required.

17. Support broader RTR and finance initiatives where required.

18. Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Gilead's centralized indirect tax operating model and compliance framework.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Business, or related discipline.

• Professional tax qualification (CTA or equivalent) preferred and would be advantageous in supporting the technical requirements of the role.

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent) preferred.

• Experience operating within a Shared Service or Global Business Services environment is advantageous.

• Experience within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or multinational corporate environment is desirable.

Knowledge & Competencies

1. Experience managing indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including VAT returns, Intrastat, and EC Sales List (ESL) reporting.

2. A strong understanding of VAT processes and the ability to identify potential risks, inconsistencies, or gaps within existing filings.

3. A proactive mindset with the initiative to investigate root causes, challenge existing processes, and drive improvements where opportunities are identified.

4. Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Finance, Tax, IT, market teams, and external providers to resolve issues and drive continuous process improvement.

5. An interest in process optimization, standardization, automation, and continuous improvement.

6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of issues through to resolution.

7. A technology-focused mindset, with a willingness to leverage digital tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

8. Comfort working with AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot and an openness to incorporating emerging technologies into day-to-day activities.

9. Experience with Excel, data analysis, reporting tools, Power Query, and automation solutions would be an advantage.

10. Understanding of accounting principles and their interaction with indirect tax reporting requirements.

11. Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP, and utilizing tax-sensitive financial data to support compliance processes.

12. Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with attention to detail and a focus on data accuracy.
