Overview

Storable is building AI agents that do real work inside our products. These agents help customers over text and voice while taking manual operational processes from request to completion—not just answering questions.

As a Software Engineer II, AI Agents, you will build and operate agents across Storable’s products. You will connect conversations to real systems of record, integrate with complex APIs, and create reliable paths for actions involving reservations, payments, tenant records, identity verification, and human escalation.

This role is for a backend-oriented engineer who is comfortable with ambiguity, production ownership, and the unique challenges of nondeterministic systems. You will help turn promising agent pilots into safe, measurable, and cost-effective product capabilities.

What you'll do every day

• Build AI agents into our product that complete workflows such as quoting availability and price, taking reservations, completing move-ins, posting payments, and issuing gate codes after identity verification; write completed actions to the system of record with a full audit trail.
• Design a shared agent experience across voice, SMS, web chat, and email so channels maintain conversation state, tenant identity, and a consistent operator-facing view.
• Build outbound workflows for delinquency and collections outreach, abandoned-cart and lead follow-up, and renewals; enforce consent, quiet hours, opt-outs, and frequency limits in code.
• Design guardrails for workflows involving money or tenant records, including PCI-safe voice payment capture, confirmation steps, idempotency, scope limits, and warm transfer to a human with a conversation summary.
• Integrate agents with legacy and poorly documented APIs using resilient authentication, retry, timeout, validation, and durable-write patterns.
• Own an agent from pilot through production by creating evaluation sets and regression runs scored on task completion, then instrumenting containment, escalation, latency, and inference cost per conversation.
• Analyze traces, transcripts, failures, and user outcomes to improve task completion, reliability, latency, and cost while identifying when an agent should escalate.
• Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve engineering quality, delivery speed, and system reliability, applying sound judgment to review and validate generated output.
• Partner with product, design, operations, and engineering teams to translate real-world processes across Storable's verticals into safe, measurable agent workflows.

What you need to bring

• 3+ years of hands-on production software engineering experience building, deploying, monitoring, and operating backend services.
• Experience shipping at least one LLM-backed feature to real users, including the ability to explain what failed, how it was measured, and how it improved.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve engineering quality, speed, or reliability.
• Strong backend and API integration skills, including authentication, webhooks, retries, timeouts, idempotency, validation, and durable writes to systems of record.
• Experience building multi-step, stateful workflows or services that manage conversation state, call external tools, handle failures, and support safe human escalation.
• Practical experience with agent mechanics such as tool or function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, structured model outputs, context management, prompt or context design, or agent-workflow orchestration, paired with sound technical judgment.
• Experience evaluating and observing nondeterministic systems by measuring task success, tracing tool calls, managing cost and latency, and escalating safely to humans.
• Experience testing nondeterministic systems, measuring task success, tracing tool calls, controlling cost and latency, and escalating safely to humans. The current role design appropriately emphasizes eval sets, regression testing, containment, escalation, latency, and inference cost. 
• Ability to work onsite in the Seattle, WA area 2–3 days per week.

Bonus points

• Experience building software with tenant-specific configuration, sensitive data, permissions, auditability, or other security-sensitive workflows.
• Experience with real-time voice systems, streaming speech, turn-taking, barge-in, telephony or SIP, messaging providers, or deliverability.
• Experience with PCI-scoped payment flows, consent management, opt-outs, quiet hours, messaging deliverability, or regulated communications.
• Experience with Redis, PostgreSQL, queues, durable workflow engines, or event-driven systems.
• Professional experience with TypeScript, Go, or Python.
• Experience with Twilio or comparable communications platforms.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, or another agent framework.
