About the Role
If you are motivated and safety-focused, this could be the role for you! This is an exciting opportunity to join us on a 12 month Fixed Term contract. Earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience and valuable industry skills within a world-class industrial operation. You'll be supported through structured training, mentoring and development as you build a rewarding career in aluminium production.
As a Smelter Operator Trainee, you'll work as part of a collaborative team responsible for supporting the safe and efficient production of aluminium. You'll learn a range of operational processes, develop technical skills, operate specialised equipment and contribute to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and performance across the smelter.
We're seeking reliable, enthusiastic individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards teamwork. What you can bring to the role
- A strong commitment to working safely and following established procedures.
- A positive attitude and genuine willingness to learn new skills and processes.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions and seek guidance when needed.
- The ability to adapt to new challenges and work in a dynamic operational environment.
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools, mechanical equipment or machinery in a workplace, trade, farming or recreational setting is encouraged.
- Drivers licence

About the Location
Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
