The Manager, Shipping & Packing is responsible for overseeing all shipping and packing operations to ensure accurate, timely, safe, and cost-effective outbound distribution. This role leads supervisors and teams, ensures compliance with transportation and safety regulations, manages documentation and freight costs, and drives continuous improvement to support operational and customer requirements.Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Packing Operations
Manage daily shipping and packing activities to meet production schedules, customer commitments, and service level expectations
Ensure all products are packed, labeled, and shipped accurately in accordance with company standards and carrier requirements
Coordinate outbound shipments with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders
Monitor labor, equipment, and dock utilization to maximize efficiency
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing lists, shipping labels, and related documents are accurate, complete, and timely
Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety and shipping policies, including hazardous materials when applicable
Maintain shipping records for audits, claims, and record retention requirements
Investigate and resolve shipment discrepancies, damages, shortages, and carrier issues
Financial & Cost Management
Manage shipping and packing budgets, including labor, freight, and supplies
Analyze freight spend, carrier performance, and damage claims to identify cost reduction opportunities
Support carrier negotiations and contract compliance in coordination with Procurement and Finance
Ensure accurate freight billing, accruals, and cost allocation
People Leadership & Development
Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and shipping/packing staff
Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and corrective actions in partnership with HR
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Develop staffing plans and succession coverage
Safety & Continuous Improvement
Enforce safe work practices, proper use of PPE, and adherence to safety procedures
Track and report KPIs such as on time delivery, error rates, damages, and productivity
Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety
Support implementation and optimization of WMS, TMS, ERP, and eBOL systems
Cross Functional Collaboration
Partner with Manufacturing, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Quality, Customer Service, and Finance teams
Act as escalation point for critical shipping issues and customer service interruptions
Provide regular reporting and operational insights to leadership
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5–8 years of experience in shipping, packing, or logistics operations
3+ years of people management experience
Strong knowledge of shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading
Experience with freight carriers, dock operations, and warehouse/shipping systems
Skills & Competencies

High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Financial and analytical acumen
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with ERP, WMS/TMS, and reporting tools
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical & Work Environment
Warehouse and shipping dock environment
Combination of office and floor presence
Extended hours, weekends, or holidays may be required during peak periods

69,000.00 - 137,000.00 USD AnnualActual compensation will be determined based on various factors including qualifications, education, experience, and location. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external factors.
