At Marshalls plc, we believe building tomorrow's world starts with what we can create together today. Built on generations of expertise, we're known for quality, innovation and sustainability, helping our customers bring their vision to life and create places that work today and last for generations. Together, we're building tomorrow's world.

We're looking for a Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance Leader to join our Health & Safety team and help make a lasting impact across our business.

So, what’s the mission?
As SHEQ Compliance Leader you will be based at our Sittingbourne site and take responsibility for coaching and developing site teams to enable SHEQ Compliance, for both external and internal standards. This encompasses all areas of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality). Maintaining independence, raising and rectifying issues across the SHEQ disciplines.

You will ensure standards are in place and adhered to at site level, and that effective procedures are in place to manage compliance. In addition to maintaining compliance, the role will drive improved standards, develop and improve culture, foster site ownership and have active involvement in rectifying issues (such as customer complaints, rejects, EHS incidents) and proactively target and achieve measurable improvements.

  • Lead and promote a strong Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) culture across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, environmental and ISO standards through effective management systems and audits.
  • Monitor performance, analyse trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide SHEQ guidance, coaching and training to support employee development and site performance.
  • Act as a key contact during internal, external and regulatory audits, ensuring site compliance is maintained.
  • Track and report SHEQ KPIs, accident data and environmental performance metrics.
  • Support quality compliance through audits, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead investigations into customer complaints and implement improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Work closely with operational teams to reduce waste, defects, rejects and rectification costs.
  • Develop and embed quality standards, processes and best practices across the site.
  • Support new product trials, capital projects and continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to improve quality, efficiency, compliance and cost performance.
  • Champion high standards of housekeeping, safety and operational excellence.
  • Build strong working relationships across the site, supporting a positive culture aligned to Marshalls values.

What are the mission-critical skills?

  • Experience within a medium or large manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) compliance and legislation.
  • Experience working with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Proven experience of quality management systems, process control and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage customer complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions effectively.
  • Experience supporting and participating in internal and external audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis techniques.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Confident using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Professional accreditation (or working towards) with CQI, IEMA or similar.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Knowledge of BS EN 1338, 1339, 1340 and 12620 standards.
  • Experience or knowledge of concrete technology.
  • Understanding of lean techniques and continuous improvement methodologies.

What's in it for you?

  • 26 days' holiday plus bank holidays (35 days in Scotland)
  • Guaranteed Christmas shutdown
  • Healthcare Cash Plan, helping towards dental, optical, prescriptions and much more
  • Enhanced family leave policies, available from day one
  • 5% employer matched pension scheme
