POSITION SUMMARY 

This position is responsible for designing, facilitating, implementing, and evaluating high-quality sexuality education and professional learning opportunities for educators, youth-serving professionals, parents and caregivers in various communities throughout New York State. This role serves as a key member of the Learning and Practice Team and the Adult Role Model team, supporting the organization's commitment to advancing equitable, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, evidence-informed sexual and reproductive health education. The Sexuality Education Specialist focuses on the professional learning through the planning and continuous improvement of trainings for internal staff, external professionals, and community partners. The position develops engaging learning experiences, educational resources that strengthen the knowledge, skills, and implementation of best practices in sexuality education, positive youth development, and sexual and reproductive health/justice. The {insert title} also supports the Adult Role Model program by implementing workshops and educational programming for parents and caregivers that build confidence and skills for having age-appropriate conversations about sexual health topics. This position supports the cultivation of partnerships with stakeholders at schools and community-based organizations. This position requires excellent facilitation, relationship-building, curriculum development, and project management skills, along with a demonstrated commitment to health equity, reproductive justice, and inclusive educational practices.  

This position will also provide support and technical assistance for special projects within the Education Department, as well as in partnership with other PPGNY departments, affiliates, and community-based organizations. This position is a hybrid-based position, working virtually and within region 1 (New York City and Nassau County) and requires travel throughout the region and occasionally across New York State. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Education, Training, and Facilitation (50%) 

  • Support workshop and training logistics, including preparation, materials, space, and refreshments. 

  • Facilitate evidence-based and evidence-informed sexuality education curricula that strengthen communication skills and increase knowledge related to sexual and reproductive health topics to community members and professionals in accordance with grant and work plan objectives. 

  • Deliver professional development trainings, workshops, and technical assistance to educators, healthcare providers, youth-serving professionals, and community partners. 

  • Adapt and customize training content to meet the needs of diverse audiences while maintaining fidelity to approved curricula and learning objectives. 

  • Collaborate with PPGNY staff across various departments to develop, revise, and enhance curricula, training materials, and educational resources. 

  • Ensure all educational activities are delivered in accordance with PPGNY's mission, values, guiding principles, and educational standards. 

Community Education and Outreach (20%) 

  • Promote and engage in meaningful outreach activities with community members, schools, community-based organizations, parents/caregivers, professionals, and other stakeholders throughout New York City. 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners to increase access to sexuality education and training opportunities. 

  • Represent PPGNY at community meetings, conferences, coalition meetings, and community engagement events. 

  • Promote awareness of sexual and reproductive health resources and services and provide referrals when appropriate. 

Program Administration (20%) 

  • Respond to requests for trainings and educational programming. 

  • Collect demographic, monitoring, and evaluation data from participants and complete required reporting accurately and timely. 

  • Maintain training records, educational materials, and program documentation. 

  • Maintain continuing education communication, records and documentation 

  • Complete administrative responsibilities in accordance with departmental and grant requirements.  

Special Projects (10%)  

  • Stay current on research, best practices, and emerging trends related to sexuality education, reproductive health, youth development, and adult learning. 

  • Participate in regular team meetings and ongoing professional development. 

  • Support departmental initiatives, special projects, and cross-departmental collaborations as assigned.

This position requires flexibility and adaptability. In response to programmatic and grant-related needs, employees may be assigned additional responsibilities or cross-functional duties to ensure program goals, timelines, and deliverables are met.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Excellent public speaking, facilitation, and training skills. 

  • Strong knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, sexuality education, and sexual and reproductive justice principles. 

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs and positive attitude 

  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with diverse communities, strengths in cultural responsiveness, and problem solving. 

  • Ability to travel throughout New York City and Nassau County and work occasional evenings and weekends as needed. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • 3-4 years of related or applicable experience 

  • Organized and detail oriented  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple priorities within a team 

  • Ability to adapt facilitation style and content to meet the needs of diverse audiences. 

  • Experience using virtual and in-person learning platforms and educational technology. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience in public health and /or education.  

  • Experience in program planning, curriculum development/instructional design, and training and facilitation and demonstrated strong conceptual thinking skills in order to build cohesive and complimentary programs strongly preferred 

  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Theory and application preferred 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, and bending. Requires lifting or moving up to 25 pounds programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and communicate with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling.  

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. Requires travel to various indoor and outdoor environments to conduct programming or events. Requires a flexible schedule, evenings and some weekends for 37.5 hours per week.
