The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Settlements Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter term (January to April) to work with our Settlements team.

The Settlements co-op/intern will work within our Investment Operations, Investment Services and Settlements vertical. This is a great opportunity for you to gain a broad understanding of investment industry operations and financial market transactions, while sharpening your analytical and project management skills.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Investment Operations (IO) is comprised of two verticals: Investment Services and Settlements, and Markets and Liquidity. These teams support trade settlement, manage corporate actions, daily cash flows, provide technical support to all BCI and administer derivative processing and collateral management for the Corporation.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Monitor, review, reconcile and analyze a wide variety and high volume of financial transactions to provide timely, accurate and efficient trade settlement for all asset classes in support of pooled accounts, individual accounts, portfolio managers, and departments of BCI.
Work under the supervision of the Associate, Settlements, to assist with various projects.
Assist with Settlements Team initiatives and identify and resolve inefficiencies in current Settlements processes.
Develop knowledge of relevant internal systems
Facilitate departmental initiatives, as required.
Build and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with team members of Investment Operations and various departments’ key operational personnel.
REQUIRED SKILLS
A fundamental knowledge of finance, business and investment-related disciplines is essential.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a close interdependent team environment.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize.
Strong attention to detail
Interest in operational investment management, commitment to the highest ethical standards and an eagerness to learn.
Strong problem-solving abilities
Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel, Power BI – including the ability to use involved formulas and macros); Bloomberg experience is an asset.
Previous work/intern/co-op experience or exposure to capital markets is preferred.

Competitive pay: $2,330.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,155.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,330.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree)
Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
