WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

Box is looking for a seasoned and strategic Senior Tax Manager to lead our global tax function and serve as the primary owner of Box's tax compliance, provision, and planning programs. As a senior leader within the Controllership organization, you will manage a team of tax professionals and act as a trusted advisor to Finance leadership on all domestic and international tax matters — ensuring Box meets its obligations accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with our long-term business strategy.

This is a high-impact role for a tax leader who brings both deep technical expertise and strong people management skills. You will set the direction for the tax function, drive process modernization through AI-enabled workflows, and build a team culture grounded in precision, accountability, and continuous improvement — all while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support Box's growth.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead, develop, and retain a team of tax professionals, establishing clear goals, providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback, and building a high-performing team culture aligned to Box's values.

• Own all aspects of federal, state, and international tax compliance, including oversight of corporate income tax returns, estimated tax payments, and related filings to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery.

• Direct the quarterly and annual income tax provision process (ASC 740), including review of tax accruals, deferred tax analysis, uncertain tax positions, and coordination with external auditors.

• Serve as a strategic tax advisor to Finance, Legal, and Business Operations, providing proactive guidance on transactions, new business initiatives, restructurings, and other matters with tax implications.

• Monitor evolving federal, state, and international tax legislation and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on Box and communicating recommended actions to senior Finance leadership.

• Oversee transfer pricing strategy and documentation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations across Box's global footprint and alignment with the company's intercompany policies.

• Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities, including leadership of tax audits, controversy matters, and responses to government inquiries.

• Drive continuous improvement and implement AI-enabled workflows to increase the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of the tax function across compliance, provision, and planning activities.

WHO YOU ARE

• You have 8+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including 3+ years in a people leadership role, ideally within a public technology company or Big 4 public accounting firm.

• You hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA and/or advanced degree (MST or JD) is strongly preferred.

• You have deep technical expertise in US federal and state corporate income tax, ASC 740 tax provision, and international tax concepts including transfer pricing, GILTI, and BEAT.

• You are a skilled communicator who can translate complex tax issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-tax audiences, including CFO-level and executive stakeholders.

• You have a demonstrated track record of building and developing high-performing teams, with a hands-on leadership style that balances strategic vision with operational execution.

• You are proficient with tax technology platforms and ERP systems (e.g., OneSource, SAP, or similar) and are energized by opportunities to modernize and automate tax workflows.
