Senior Indirect Tax Accountant

As a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant in our Indirect Tax team, you will help ensure Thomson Reuters businesses are compliant in all aspects of indirect tax, including US Sales and Use Tax, Canadian Goods and Services Tax, and Harmonized Sales Tax. You will work with our team to employ various automation tools, such as Alteryx and Power BI, to streamline and improve tax processes. This is a high-visibility opportunity that requires someone who can operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priority projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

In this opportunity as a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant, you will:

• Provide support for indirect tax audits and ensure compliance across all jurisdictions
• Set up and maintain sales tax product codes in SAP, ensuring accurate classification
• Regularly monitor and update tax matrices to meet evolving compliance requirements
• Review and analyze sales and use tax (SUT), annual reports, and business license matters
• Collaborate on research and planning initiatives related to indirect tax issues and regulatory changes
• Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of SUT systems and system implementations
• Ensure business segments have robust processes and records in place to support exempt sales
• Provide business segments with actionable indirect tax advice and ongoing support
• Participate in due diligence processes and acquisition integrations from a tax compliance perspective
• Prepare Voluntary Disclosure Agreement documents and manage associated filings
• Assist with various indirect tax projects and initiatives as business needs arise

Required Qualifications

You're a fit for the role of Senior Indirect Tax Accountant if your background includes:

• Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience in tax accounting or indirect tax compliance
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent professional experience
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems (particularly SAP)
• Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills in complex tax scenarios
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain tax concepts clearly to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated experience in sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Alteryx and Power BI for tax process automation and data analysis
• Hands-on experience with ONESOURCE suite of software products, including ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Determination
• Proven ability to determine proper sales tax treatment for complex business and legal transactions
• Deep knowledge of indirect tax legislation, regulations, court decisions, and ruling interpretations
• Track record of conducting independent research to support implementation and interpretation of indirect tax laws
• Background in public accounting or a Master of Business Taxation degree (or working towards one)
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
