Senior Software Engineer (Backend Focused)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend Focused)  to work on a project in the fashion industry.

You will be part of a distributed team developing new technologies to solve real business problems. Our client is a leading premium fashion and lifestyle omnichannel retailer, with a long heritage and a strong digital commerce presence alongside its physical stores. The organisation is actively accelerating its digital capabilities to enhance customer experience and retail operations at scale, making technology a core driver of business growth

We are looking for someone with good communication skills, ideally with experience making decisions, being proactive, used to building software from scratch, and with good attention to detail. 

What you will do:

• Take ownership of data-driven backend features that power personalised navigation, product discovery, and user experiences.

• Develop features such as chatbots, personalised search filters, and other data-driven capabilities, depending on project priorities.

• Design, implement, and continuously improve APIs and backend services.

• Contribute to backend architecture and technical decision-making, collaborating with the team to propose, evaluate, and implement solutions.

• Support full-stack development when needed, including smaller frontend and infrastructure tasks.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and actively participate in code reviews.

• Collaborate closely with the wider team in an Agile/Scrum environment, using tools such as Jira.

What you will bring:

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend development.

• A proactive, ownership-driven mindset, with the ability to take initiative, drive conversations forward, take responsibility for topics, and bring new ideas or improvements without needing to be prompted.

• Excellent English communication skills (CEFR C1 or above), with the ability to communicate clearly in both technical and interpersonal contexts.

• Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot, including working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.

• Good understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles and their application in backend software development.

Nice to have:

• Experience with data processing using Python, and knowledge of data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow); familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Google BigQuery)

• Experience with CI/CD, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

• Experience in the e-commerce sector
