Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist to support the growth and advancement of our next-generation battery manufacturing operations. This role serves as a key member of the EHS team, partnering with operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory, and business teams to strengthen safety performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and support Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation.
The Senior Safety Specialist will advance EHS programs, chemical inventory management, emergency preparedness, training coordination, hazard analysis, and continuous improvement efforts across Solid Power facilities. The ideal candidate brings strong industrial safety experience, knowledge of high-hazard manufacturing environments, and the ability to influence safety performance across all levels of the organization.
Job Duties:
- Support and enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Partner with the Chemical Hygiene Officer to maintain chemical inventory systems, safety data sheet (SDS) databases, and chemical labeling programs in accordance with GHS requirements.
- Conduct routine safety audits, hazard assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), facility walkthroughs, and specialized assessments, including fire safety and arc flash compliance reviews, as required.
- Lead or support incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked to closure.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, standards, emergency response plans, and Process Safety Management programs based on Process Hazard Analysis outcomes and gap assessments.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, laboratory, and engineering teams to integrate safe work practices into daily operations and projects.
- Monitor and report leading and lagging safety indicators, incident trends, audit findings, and risk assessments to support continuous improvement and resource planning.
- Support hazardous material inventory management, hazardous waste stewardship, cost-containment initiatives, and spending reviews against safety KPIs.
- Coordinate and support EHS training programs, regulatory training requirements, and workforce competency initiatives.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of EHS experience, including at least 2 years in a high-hazard industrial manufacturing environment subject to Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.Experience supporting chemical, industrial gas, battery manufacturing, or similarly regulated industrial operations.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, safety audits, hazard assessments, and risk assessments.
- Experience managing chemical inventory systems, SDS administration, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste programs.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119), Chemical Hygiene and Laboratory Safety requirements (29 CFR 1910.1450), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and NFPA 70E electrical safety practices.

Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices in high-hazard manufacturing environments.

Demonstrated ability to rapidly assess risk, respond to incidents, and make sound decisions in dynamic situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current HAZWOPER 40-hour certification and DOT hazardous waste training.
- Experience with EHS management platforms such as VelocityEHS, Cority, SAM, or similar systems.
- Experience with hazardous waste profiling, manifest review, and waste management processes.
- Experience supporting Emergency Response Teams (ERT), emergency management programs, or incident command activities.
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices, especially in high-hazard environments.
- Familiarity with OSHA process safety management (29 CFR 1910.119).
- Familiarity with OSHA Chemical Hygiene requirements (29 CFR 1910.1450).
- Familiarity with OSHA Laboratory Safety requirements (29 CFR 1910.1450).
- Familiarity with OSHA LOTO and NFPA electrical safe work practices (NFPA 70E).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to quickly assess threats and risks and act.
- Proven ability to handle conflict resolution and de-escalation.
Physical Requirements:
- Work in offices, laboratories, and manufacturing environments.
- Regularly walk and stand throughout production and operational areas.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, and other protective equipment as required.
- Wear a respirator and participate in the company respiratory protection program, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
- Work around chemicals, industrial equipment, forklifts, batteries, manufacturing systems, and other operational processes.
- Occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
- Travel between Solid Power facilities as business needs require.
Hourly Range: $90,000 - $105,000 annually.
