Senior Regional Manager

The Senior Regional Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for a portfolio of multifamily communities and Regional Managers. This role partners closely with executive leadership to drive financial performance, operational excellence, client satisfaction, and organizational growth. The Senior Regional Manager serves as a mentor to Regional Managers, leads complex ownership relationships, supports business development initiatives, and ensures consistent execution of company standards across multiple markets. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development  

  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop Regional Managers while promoting accountability and leadership growth. 
  • Partner with Regional Managers to develop succession plans for key positions. 
  • Lead performance management processes, including evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and talent development. 
  • Support recruiting efforts for Regional Manager and Community Manager positions. 
  • Foster collaboration and consistency across portfolios and regions. 
  • Champion company culture, diversity, engagement, and leadership initiatives. 
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring newly hired Regional Managers. 

Strategic Portfolio Management 

  • Provide strategic oversight for a large and/or complex portfolio of assets. 
  • Identify operational trends and implement portfolio-wide initiatives that improve NOI, occupancy, resident satisfaction, and operational efficiency. 
  • Ensure Regional Managers execute company policies, compliance standards, and best practices. 
  • Evaluate portfolio risks and proactively implement corrective action plans. 
  • Partner with executive leadership on acquisitions, dispositions, lease-ups, transitions, and distressed assets. 

Financial Leadership 

  • Drive portfolio profitability through strategic budgeting, forecasting, and expense management. 
  • Review and approve annual operating and capital budgets prepared by Regional Managers. 
  • Analyze financial performance and present recommendations to senior leadership and ownership groups. 
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve operational efficiencies across the portfolio. 
  • Oversee capital improvement planning and execution. 

Client & Ownership Relations 

  • Serve as the primary executive contact for key ownership groups and institutional clients. 
  • Lead quarterly business reviews and ownership meetings. 
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring exceptional service delivery. 
  • Resolve complex client concerns and provide strategic recommendations that align with ownership objectives. 
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal presentations and client retention initiatives. 

Operational Excellence 

  • Ensure operational consistency across all assigned markets. 
  • Conduct portfolio reviews, property inspections, and operational audits. 
  • Monitor compliance with Fair Housing, OSHA, company policies, and all regulatory requirements. 
  • Oversee emergency response planning and risk mitigation efforts. 
  • Support implementation of new technology, operational processes, and company initiatives. 

Marketing & Revenue Strategy 

  • Partner with Regional Managers to develop market-specific leasing and marketing strategies. 
  • Analyze market trends, competitive positioning, and pricing strategies. 
  • Support revenue management initiatives to maximize occupancy and rental income. 
  • Evaluate portfolio-wide resident retention strategies and customer experience initiatives. 

Business Development 

  • Participate in client presentations and due diligence for new management opportunities. 
  • Support portfolio transitions and onboarding of newly awarded properties. 
  • Represent the company at industry events and professional organizations. 
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships. 

Travel  

  • This position entails travel, estimated at 25-50% of work time annually. Travel may be required for property visits, conferences, training sessions, or other business-related activities. 

 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Real Estate, Finance, or related field preferred.  
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive multifamily property management experience.  
  • Minimum 3–5 years leading Regional Managers or managing large, multi-state portfolios.  
  • CAM, CAPS, CPM, ARM, or equivalent professional designation preferred.  
  • Demonstrated success managing institutional clients and complex portfolios.  
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large operating and capital budgets.  
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills.  
  • Advanced knowledge of Fair Housing, OSHA, landlord-tenant regulations, and property management software.
