Ameresco has an immediate opening for a Senior Project Manager, ESPC.  The Senior Project Manager, ESPC is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering complex energy performance and infrastructure modernization projects.  The position serves as the single point of accountability for project execution, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and client requirements. The role combines project leadership, financial oversight, technical expertise, stakeholder management, and team development.


Overview:

The Senior Project Manager leads all phases of Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) projects, from project initiation and planning through construction, commissioning, turnover, and close-out. The individual coordinates multidisciplinary teams that may include engineers, consultants, subcontractors, commissioning specialists, and internal support personnel. Success requires balancing client expectations, technical requirements, commercial objectives, and operational performance.


In addition to delivering projects, the position plays a strategic role in maintaining customer relationships, managing risk, ensuring contractual compliance, and supporting future business opportunities through successful project outcomes.


Responsibilities:


Project Leadership and Execution

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning and delivering projects from concept to completion. Key duties include:

  • Developing project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk management strategies.
  • Leading project teams and coordinating all project stakeholders.
  • Monitoring performance against safety, schedule, budget, and quality targets.
  • Resolving issues and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and lessons-learned reviews.

A primary expectation is the successful delivery of complex ESPC projects while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.


Client and Stakeholder Management

The position serves as the principal client contact throughout project execution. Responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, utilities, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Leading project meetings, presentations, and executive briefings.
  • Managing customer expectations and resolving concerns professionally.
  • Supporting long-term business growth through effective client engagement.

Strong communication and relationship management skills are critical to success.


Financial and Commercial Management

The Senior Project Manager has significant responsibility for project financial performance, including:

  • Budget development and forecasting.
  • Cash flow and revenue management.
  • Cost control and profitability monitoring.
  • Procurement oversight and contract negotiations.
  • Managing change orders, contract modifications, and commercial risks.
  • Approving project expenditures and preparing executive financial reports.

The role requires a strong understanding of both project finance and contractual obligations.


Technical and Construction Leadership

The Senior Project Manager provides oversight for technical implementation and construction execution, including:

  • Coordinating energy conservation measures, facility renewal projects, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Supporting energy audits, feasibility studies, and investment-grade analyses.
  • Reviewing engineering designs and technical specifications.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Supporting commissioning and verifying performance outcomes.

The position also oversees construction quality, inspection, testing, deficiency management, turnover, and owner acceptance processes.


Safety, Quality, and Team Development

Safety leadership is a core responsibility. The Senior Project Manager must:

  • Promote a culture of safety excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Support continuous improvement of quality, environmental, and safety systems.

The role also includes mentoring project managers and technical staff, fostering accountability and collaboration, and supporting employee growth through coaching and professional development.

  • Electrical distribution systems.
  • Lighting and lighting controls.
  • Energy management technologies.
  • Facility infrastructure renewal.
  • Commissioning practices.
  • Energy retrofit and conservation projects.
  • Construction and project management methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A degree or diploma in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible project management, engineering, construction, or energy services experience.
  • At least 5 years leading complex infrastructure or facility projects.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for budgets, schedules, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Experience with procurement, contract administration, and subcontract management.
  • Ability to travel and obtain Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional designations such as P.Eng., PMP, or Gold Seal.
  • Experience with Government of Canada, DND, PSPC, CSC, or other public-sector projects.
  • Knowledge of Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), ESCO, Design-Build, or Integrated Project Delivery.
  • Familiarity with Measurement & Verification (M&V) principles.
  • Experience with ISO management systems and safety certifications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI, and related software.
