We’re looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Contracting team in Auckland. You’ll lead day-to-day project engineering and site delivery, supporting our Project Manager to safely and efficiently deliver high-quality civil construction works. Your mahi will help us create, connect and care for communities by delivering safer, more reliable infrastructure across Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

You’ll take the lead on the technical and commercial aspects of construction projects, working closely with the Project Manager and wider contracting team. This is a hands-on, site-based role with time both in the office and out on project sites. You’ll be responsible for the safe, efficient and productive delivery of works, making sure jobs are completed to spec, on time and on budget. Your leadership will directly influence team culture, safety, quality and the long-term success of our projects and business.
 

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Lead project teams in the successful execution and delivery of civil construction projects
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the project site, monitoring progress and resolving issues to keep works on track
  • Champion Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards, ensuring pre-starts are completed, risks are managed and company procedures are followed
  • Prepare and manage project documentation, including programmes, correspondence, cost estimates and records, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
  • Schedule works and procure contractor services, providing technical expertise and problem-solving support as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement, identifying safer, smarter ways of working and sharing ideas with the team

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • A Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or similar tertiary qualification), ideally NZQF Level 7/8, from a recognised institution
  • Around 5+ years’ experience delivering mid to large-scale roading or civil construction projects, ideally within a contracting environment
  • Strong working knowledge of project management principles, site operations and current civil construction legislation in New Zealand
  • Solid understanding of core civil engineering principles and what “good practice” looks like on site
  • Proven leadership capability, able to be a role model who people respect and want to follow
  • Commercial nous, with experience managing risk, cost and productivity to ensure projects are delivered to spec, in full, on time, every time
